View Full Version : What was your first video game system?
My first console was a home pong clone
It came with a pair of grey paddle controllers and a light gun for the skeet shooting game.
The NES wasn't officially sold in this country, which left the door open for a multitude of hardware clones, some of which would even dare to imitate the name and appearance of more advanced consoles. This was the one we had (those notches above the A and B buttons are autofire switches).

Also, here's an interesting video.

Nintendo Entertainment System, way back in 1988. Waaaaaaaaaaaaaay back. Christ, I'm old.
i had a pentium 4 in back days with windows xp.
still happy to remember those days.
If the Game & Watch counts as a video game system then that would be my first, I remember playing with one when I hadn't even started kindergarten yet.

PC was my first, it came with Prince of persia preinstalled :D
Edit: The first prince of persia that could fit in a floppy disk :)
The older Xbox with the green logo circle on top, and silver text.

Pepsiman is the very definition of a cult hit, and Tarzan had an amazing soundtrack (Phil Collins), in addition to FMVs from Disney's movie. My only complaint is that I was unable to reach 100% completion on either...

PS1, first games were Tarzan and Crazy Taxi! Was my only console until PS3
Atari. I don't remember the number, but it was the one with pitfall and that game with ships that when you left one corner of the screen, your ship would appear in the opposite corner.
Just like it happens to me when I am waking up.
PS1, first games were Tarzan and Crazy Taxi!
Crazy Taxi on the original PlayStation? I thought it was basically a Dreamcast exclusive at the time.
NES knockoff - PEGASUS. That's what was highest end gaming system in eastern europe ;]
Just look at this shop window! That physical copy of ToHeart was enthralling, and the rest didn't disappoint :smilie4:

=============
Edit:
Ok, that was in poor taste, maybe. (everyone relates with technology in a very personal way :P )
Since I can't answer your visitor message (maybe I can't find the button?) and the subject is a lot more about this thread, there goes some old tech.
Not my first video game system, but my 1st online access with one:
21654
This cartridge allowed people to have an e-mail (and then typing each letter using the console's gamepad, not a fast experience) in the times of bbs.
I never used for other purposes.

There's a time and a place for everything :smilie4:

Well, now I don't feel so bad about sending electronic letters using this.

Poor promotion, you did never "raspe aqui".
Nice gadgets.
I clean my old stuff these days, but I had a box that was a palmtop graveyard.
These days I am a bit ashamed of them, it is like I was a beta-tester of the end of the world (smartphones) by using them.
I passed so much time of my early life explaining unknown people what was that thing in the palm of my hand, and nowadays I have to explain people that I do not use a phone at all.
I used to play solitary on some of the palms. (that is me trying to keep on topic).

Our $9.90/month plan already included e-mail!

I bought one of these for cheap past beyond their prime, just to see what the fuss was about...

An iPaq! With Windows CE! Turn it off! Turn it off!
I was a Palm user, with PalmOS. I used them to read, manage contacts, keep track of movies during festivals, write (I had a foldable pocket keyboard, and I did write at the time), to turn off televisions in restaurants (such a nuisance), and rarely to play solebon.
Solebon made them count as video game systems?

Windows CE (or Mobile in this case) was far more performant than any modern smartphone OS, but Microsoft seems to be doomed to always fail in the embedded systems market. Also, there was no power off, only standby :richter:

Was about to ask if anyone actually got any real work done on these things, but I guess this answers it, even if a foldable keyboard is almost cheating.
Sinclair Spectrum was my first
If the Spectrum counts, then I suppose I can mention this one.

It had simple text-based games, a BASIC interpreter that got me into programming, and a 32 KB expansion cartridge which no shop here imported :gnoes: Still have the bag.
