TechCrunch (http://techcrunch.com/2016/05/19/audio-fingerprinting-being-used-to-track-web-users-study-finds/) just found a study (http://randomwalker.info/publications/OpenWPM_1_million_site_tracking_measurement.pdf) (involving 1 millions sites) from Princeton researchers analyzing the more prevalent tracking entities and the way they are tracking.

It appears that Google tentacles are really everywhere:

The results of the Princeton Web Census study, which they claim to be the biggest to date, shows that Google, through multiple domains, is tracking users on around 80 percent of all Top 1 Million domains.

Moreover some new fingerprinting methods are emerging: AudioContext fingerprinting and Canvas-Font fingerprinting

An online Audiocontext fingerprinting test is available here (https://audiofingerprint.openwpm.com/)

And here is the tool (https://github.com/citp/OpenWPM) used in the study.
