nothing is freeleech there. afaik they don't even have FL. iirc there's a snatch list in your profile which takes very good care of your ratio for every torrent.

Global download isn't tracked (or at least displayed), and seeding requirements operate purely on the honor system, so in a way everything's freeleech. Promotions based on upload amount and people who cross-seed defeat the entire point, though.

Looks like WCD's tracker is down for quite a while but the site is up. I'm having problems at seeding some torrents and form what I've heard parts of the trackers are down so the problem is not with all the torrents, only some of them.

They have been going for quite some time now (can we call this The Great DDoSing of 2014?). Who has ordered or is running them isn't really clear, but they have been pretty effective.

There has been discovered new vulnerability in NTP daemon (linux clock sync service) which when exploited allows one to successfully DDOS target with substantially lower resources then what would usually be needed. Many big hosting players (aka `Cloudfire`) has been hit with it, causing mass disruptions of service.
The good news is that they just got back up! Missed them :( It's still so slow, though...

Nice one anon, it seems they are really under an armageddon right now. I read elsewhere they are negotiating with their host to change ip and that the DDoS has even blown their server. I had no idea that was possible.

After this long downtime it would never be as good as it was. Most users have migrated to GazelleGames.
iplay has also been down for a long time. They had some hardware issues and lost all the data. If they start fresh the site would be pretty useless in my opinion...

Jul-03-14 - BCG Lives Again - Welcome Back! - (pjcnet)
It's certainly been a very difficult first half of 2014 that has brought us many challenges, but when our privately owned server suddenly suffered a catastrophic hardware failure after everything we'd already been through to get the site back online it couldn't have possibly happened at a worse time. We however never gave up and despite even more challenges we always knew that with determination we'd make it back. I am now absolutely delighted to be-able to welcome back each and every member back to BCG!
We now have a faster more powerful server with a faster connection and along with various optimisations this should make the site run considerably faster than before, measures are also in place to greatly reduce the chances of us being brought down for the same reasons ever again.
Since we have been offline for quite sometime we didn't consider it reasonable to expect everyone who had deleted their downloaded data to have to redownload it again if they still had hit and runs outstanding in order to get their accounts back into good standing. We have therefore cleared everyone's hit and runs as we considered this the easiest and fairest solution! We kindly ask all are members however to continue to seed the torrents they do have as much as possible as this will help aid us in our quick recovery, thank you!
Unfortunately due to a problem with the backups we have lost almost 4 months of the latest torrents in our database, this means that since we've been offline for quite a while the latest torrents available were uploaded approx 7 months ago at the time of writing, apart from a few newer torrents that I've uploaded and any other new torrents that other members may have uploaded by the time you read this announcement. If you are still seeding any lost torrents they will show up as "unregistered torrent" on the tracker and you can safely remove them if you want to, if however no-one else has already done so and you would like to re-upload any missing torrents we would be very grateful as you would be greatly aiding our recovery.
Finally I would like to thank everyone here for continuing to believe in us throughout our extended downtime even though it went on longer than we'd initially hoped. With the help of yourselves, our members I am extremely confident that we will now make a full and speedy recovery!

Cooling and power issues. They also took advantage of the downtime to do some upgrades and maintenance. They're back now :)

but you do need to store that backup somewhere, which isn't free at all. nor is the bandwidth to download all that data. I can't imagine a full tracker's backup is just a few megabytes. I think it's quite large, correct me if I'm mistaking? A torrent might be small, but 10 million torrents do pile up in bytes.

The staff at FL are very secretive but the rumors are the site has been attacked for weeks now(ddos?) and they had a slow loading/sluggish site with small downtimes in the recent days/weeks . If they don't implement some protection it's likely the site will stay down .
I'm fairly sure they had already implemented anti-DDoS security last time they were attacked. I remember an announcement with the logo of the company they chose.

It's with a heavy heart that I bring you this news post today.
It seems once again that FACT (Federation Against Copyright Theft) have gone after the small site rather than those that make thousands each and every month in profit.
But what can we do ? I guess small sites make for big numbers :-(
I have been under investigation by FACT for some time it seems and to avoid being dragged through the courts and having huge legal fee's I have to adhere to their demands.
They have said that I need to hand them over the domain to this site and to cease my involvement with running such a site. If I comply then any and all charges against me will be dropped.
This means that in the coming week the domain torrentshack.net (Registered to me) will be handed over to FACT for them to do with as they please. When this happens the site at this domain will no longer function.
This is the reason why the PayPal was removed from the site a few days ago as I did not want donations to be made that could not be used towards the costs of running the site.
They have not asked for anything from the DataBase. Simply that I stop what I am doing and sign over the domain. In simple terms, the Domain is simply the URL you type in to visit the site. It has no connection with your accounts, your security. There is no reason fro anyone to worry.
It's been a great run and I have really enjoyed what we have done here over the last few years. I want to thank everyone that has made it possible.
I guess I proved that what they said "Couldn't" be done.... Actually "Could" be done.

It was simply the domain which was in my name. Nothing fake like other sites. Perhaps a bad decision ? Yeah I guess so looking back on it but nothing I can change right now.
I comply with their demands, hand over the domain at .net and they leave me alone.
I do not have the funds to fight them through the courts, even if I should win. It's simply not an option. I have to take what they are offering and be greatful

nach nun mehr als 10 Jahren Quorks-Geschichte ist jetzt leider die Zeit gekommen, an der wir uns von Euch verabschieden und den Trackerbetrieb für immer einstellen werden. Diese schmerzhafte Entscheidung ist weder spontan noch kurzfristig, sondern über einen längeren Zeitraum entstanden.
Bei allen Teammitgliedern haben sich berufliche und familiäre Situationen entwickelt, dass die Zeit, die ein gigantisches Projekt wie Quorks benötigt, einfach nicht mehr aufzubringen ist. Die Verantwortung im privaten und beruflichen Umfeld ist nunmal wichtiger. Neue Mitglieder fürs Team, welche sowohl mehr Zeit, als auch die Fähigkeiten sowie unser 100%iges Vertrauen besitzen, konnten wir leider keine finden, weshalb wir dieses Projekt beenden müssen.
Die Nachfrage im Torrentbereich der letzten Jahre stagniert bzw. ist tendenziell rückläufig. Viele User nutzen mittlerweile Streamdienste oder One-Click-Hoster, seien es legale oder nicht legale.
Auch die Lage in dem Land, in welchem unser Server steht, ist aktuell etwas unübersichtlich und nicht klar erkennbar, ob sich dort zukünftig die Gesetzmäßigkeiten und Handhabungen zum Thema Filesharing verändern werden.
Aus diesen Gründen sehen wir keine Zukunft mehr für Quorks als Tracker. Es bleibt uns also nur einen würdigen und sicheren Schlussstrich zu ziehen.
Ihr habt nun etwa 48 Stunden Zeit einen letzten Blick auf Euer Userprofil zu werfen. Ihr könnt nur noch Euer eigenes Profil einsehen, um Euch für Euer Familienalbum oder eine Bewerbung auf einem anderen Tracker einen Screenshot anzufertigen. Bitte vergesst auch nicht, sämtliche Graphiken, Bilder und Avatare von unserem Pic-Hoster zu sichern. Um Eure Daten müsst Ihr Euch selbstverständlich keine Sorgen machen. Während diese Webseite angezeigt wird, werden die Datenbanken und Backups sicher auf den verschlüsselten Platten gelöscht.
Wir möchten uns bei der Community für die großartige Zeit recht herzlich bedanken! Besonders bei jenen, die den Tracker ständig mit Daten versorgten und all jenen, die den Usern bei Problemen kompetent Hilfe anboten. Und natürlich bei allen Seedern und Leechern. No clue, but it seems they rewrote big parts of their code to suit a cloud based solution rather than the normal server they had. I got into this figuring I'd be patient and just wait, but it's time to get back up already... :P

Our apologies to all our users for the downtime and lack of updates on the situation. Here's the order of events from the last few weeks:
- your kind donations paid for the next 12 months of web hosting.
- BREIN lodged a complaint with our host. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BREIN
- we are still online at this point. we began planning how to handle the situation, then...
- an anonymous complaint to our domain registrar lead to suspension of our domain. this prevents your computer from translating karagarga.net into the IP address for our server.
We have disabled access to the main website and tracker. The forum is still accessible with a workaround (see below). No data has been lost or leaked and we hope to see you all soon.

Status Update
As most of you have noticed, the site has been down for the past few days. We've been working non-stop to try and correct the problem, but it seems efforts have been fruitless for the most part. Unfortunately, if things don't turn around in the next few days, we will unfortunately/potentially suffer from a loss of data. We generally take monthly backups, we're a small site, so storage of backups more often than that wasn't really something we were adament about. However, one of those monthly backups failed to transfer, and the site went down before it was time for the next backup to run (it's all automated in the background). So that means, if we can't rescue the server, we will incure a data loss of 2 months.
This is big to us, and it hurts, we will be switching from hosting providers since this isn't the first time we've had this type of failure and it seems all too common with them at this point. So, we'll be moving to greener pastures in hopes of bluer skies.
This isn't goodbye.
We'll be setting up the site within the week hopefully, and we'll have more updates as to what actually has transpired and how we're going to fix things to be better. We've been so involved with our new site that we failed to pay attention to the current site, which means we failed each and everyone of you who visits this site.
Regarding Recent Applications
Some people have been asking about their accounts created in the past 2 months, just as a pre-caution, if you still have your email from where you application was accepted, please keep it. We'll work out a way to reverify you so your account can be created again if it comes down to that.
We'll know for sure by this Friday as to what steps we'll have to take to get the site back online and may even have it back up and running. We're handling a lot of back ground things and we're working on being down for as little time as possible. Even if it seems like forever.

We've had a disk failure and our disk array is offline. We have started the process of procuring a replacement, but it doesn't look like it will arrive today. We will be taking the site down in light of the disk problems, and hope to be back quickly once down, but no guarantees, as usual. News about the downtime and recovery will be provided in the main IRC channel, and possibly on this page as well.
