how does the dupe acc detection work on trackers? if i was to login to lets say bitme on a friends ip address for a few days, and dont login on my ip would i be able to invite myself and create and use another acc on my own ip as long as i dont log back into the original acc with my ip? also i will delete the original cookies for that site.

every tracker has some script installed that checks the ip every time u login
so if u logged in to say ur frnds bitme account from ur home IP then u cannot log to another bitme account from the same IP even if u clear cookies
u need to login to ur frnd bitme account from another IP,only then u can create a new account or use another bitme from ur home IP

Pretty much. It all works around using one IP a site. If it the IP changes internationally, then some trackers usually have auto-ban scripts. As you said log on to BitMe at a friends house for a few days, doing so a few times to get the system to associate the new IP [Friend's] with that account. Make sure you don't have any left over cookies/CSSs/other cached files on your computer. Further precaution would be to change your home IP address as well - this will add another layer of security through obscurity ie, even your new account will have an IP not used in the database - but you may have a static IP (quite undesirable as a cheater/acc whore). Do make sure you use a new/different email address as well.

@johno: yes u would be perfectly safe if u dont login back to the account from ur own IP and u can reinvite urself and start using the account from ur own IP.

I wouldn't advise to use dupe acc's, especially if your an average user.
It could harm more than it might help.

Absolutely not. All your IPs are logged, and doing that will trigger their dupe detection, regardless of if you log in to the old account.

well how can that work ive had a few accounts from this ip as i have with most trackers, traded one acc, activated another few days later none have ever been disabled.

anyway ive bought a wireless dongle for my laptop when im out and about, but im having trouble logging into bitme or bitmetv saying invalid security code (5 letters on login page) but im doing it right for certain if i connect to my home connection logs in straight away with no problems. wondered if anyone had any idea what may be the problem. any help would be appreciated.

i doubt it very much that it even triggers an alarm if someone uses an ip that someone else used, say a week before.
that would create too much false postives.

Maybe I'm a bit biased/paranoid, but I'd hardly consider two accounts on the same IP with a week of difference a "false positive". ISPs usually have large IP pools, divided by speed plan and/or region. Add the fact not every single customer of a particular provider will also be registered on the tracker, and I wouldn't see it as a mere coincidence.

I'm not on the other extreme, either. If over a month had passed, I wouldn't consider the accounts dupes.
