View Full Version : First *broadband* connection you got?
Mine was a 128Kbit Cable line. :zocka:
DialUp 56kBit,
now you'd say i wasn't capped well not really :P
the limit was 50Hours/Month.hehe
DialUp 56kBit
Dial-up isn't broadband!
ok then mine was 512kBit :P
7GB/month :frown:
512 also.. no limits though
it quickly turned to the 1.5 (down) I still have lol
Mine was 1024 kbps
oh, do we have a winner ?
Afaik broadband is defined as 2Mbit/s and up.
So I still have no broadband connection - only 768kbit/s.
Otherwise I don't know if my old ISDN with 2 connections (=128kbit/s) is allowed here.
best regards

For me broadband is anything with a speed higher than 56Kbit that doesn't use your phone line.
Afaik broadband is defined as 2Mbit/s and up.
From Wikipedia:
Although various minimum bandwidths have been used in definitions of broadband, ranging up from 64 kbit/s up to 2.0 Mbit/s[1], the 2006 OECD report[2] is typical by defining broadband as having download data transfer rates equal to or faster than 256 kbit/s, while the United States (US) Federal Communications Commission (FCC) as of 2009, defines "Basic Broadband" as data transmission speeds exceeding 768 kilobits per second (Kbps),
Sorry for the long quote
On topic: mine was 356kbps, unlimited usage. It's a strange number, that was 7 years ago

from 56kb/s (dial-up) to .....756kb/s (broadband)
My first broadband was a 350kbit/128kbit ADSL.
I think everyone should write also when did they get it? I got it 2003.

2004 here!
The thing was a spaceship back then. Most of my friends didn't even have a computer at home
mine was 512 kbps from dialup , so it was a huge leap at that time . you could not imagine how much happy i was seeing download speed reach 60 KBps when the maximum i saw was 6 KBps

Your old line had a speed of 6 kilobits per second, i.e. 0.75kB/s? That must have been exasperating
i even managed to keep a screen of my dial-up :D

Broadband arrived on late 2000 in my city, but I couldn't subscribe until 2005, when they made it available to my neighborhood. So it was 4 years of waiting and using friend's connection.
2003-2004.
I think it was something between these two years.
20/1 MBs.
Only two years ago.
and up until 2 years ago you didn't use the internet?
or even worst had 56K modem?
In the nineties I had internet at school.
From 1999-2007 I didn't have internet.

Your comment made me look at my 1st post.
The speeds I meant are 20 / 1 mb.
Sorry about the confusion.
Changed my ISP not long ago.
I have better upload now.

20/1 is very good for a home connection, although if I had to envy something that'd be Swedish 100/100 lines
768kbps d and 384kbps u :|

When broadband connections were introduced in Germany there were only 768kbit down and 64kbit up lines available for private homes. That was my very first broadband connection. I upgraded from a dial-up ISDN Connection which had 64kbit down/upstream when the channels were bundled... That was so incredibly fast back then! Now almost 15 years later i have 50mbits down and 10mbits up for the same price! But i still could use some more speed ;)
