View Full Version : Migrating to Opera

Hello guys.I've finally decided it's better for me to move to Opera.
Reason is simple:
firefox=over bloated and resource hungry;
chrome= kinda insecure;

I need to know two things before I move.
1.How to remove adds.
2.How to make a easy accessible bookmark tab in Opera just like Firefox has, instead of going to the global menu(using 10.53)

*OnE oF uS, oNe Of Us!*

1. replace your current urlfilter.ini with Fanboy's Adblock List for Opera (http://www.fanboy.co.nz/adblock/opera/)
2. Opera had a customizable bar you could drag bookmarks to, if I remember correctly. Shift+F12 -> Toolbars -> enable the Personal Bar.

Yes I remember that too.I need bookmarks inside folders(multiple bookmarks are show when I click that in the bookmarks bar).

I need bookmarks inside folders

Drag the whole folder to the personal bar.

I would recommend to stay on firefox, the next version (3.7) will get faster by putting the addons in processes.

I prefer migrating for now.Firefox disappointed me long enough.
anon I'm talking about this kind of thing.

Me too...

SBfreak
29.05.10, 00:22
How do I move the folder lol?
On Firefox I create it and then put bookmarks in it.

anon
29.05.10, 00:23
Bookmarks -> Manage bookmarks, then you can drag folders from there to the bar.

SBfreak
29.05.10, 00:28
One more thing before I go to sleep.
How do I add the bookmarks directly without accessing the bookmarks tab?

anon
29.05.10, 00:29
You mean adding the bookmarks you already have to that bar without going to Bookmarks -> Manage? I don't know if that's possible. I'm still on 10.10, though...

SBfreak
29.05.10, 00:32
Never mind I found how.
In 10.53 you have a bookmark+ option in the menu that adds the current tab as a bookmark.

Just stumbled upon some commercials for google chrome and opera, I think you will like it.

google chrome:

answer from opera:

Watch in that order to get point. ^^

well, this makes me wanna try it out, too :D
used it for a short time some years ago but went back to the mozilla stuff dü to the lack of addons. anyway there're a few things i need:

some sort of noscript
disable image animations
disable referer (not so important)
something similar to downthemall
addblock with custom entries like '.swf' etc.
custom bookmarks file location so i can put it on a network drive and use it with different machines
useragent faking

BlockIt
That's built-in
That's built-in
Not possible
That's built-in
You can relocate the config folder, I guess
That's built-in, but very basic, it only lets you spoof older IE and Firefox versions. No custom strings.

mmh, for some reason the 10.54 dies right after starting. gotta try the official release

---------- Post added at 01:29 ---------- Previous post was at 01:26 ----------

official 10.53 is crashing, too

---------- Post added at 01:34 ---------- Previous post was at 01:29 ----------

10.10 is doing something i've never seen so far. the icon is like dancing and rotating in the dock for almost one minute ... then it's like terminating itself

Haha Opera failed with meebo...
Anyone knows a good meebo alternative?

simexi
29.05.10, 14:46
Maybe the problem is with meebo? I tested and it almost worked. Tried to IM with friend and that chatbox dragged with cursor, all the time.

I'm using: 10.54 Build 3394 / Win7

Same thing that happened to me.Right now I'm using Iceweasel.
I started thinking about not migrating to Opera because it doesn't have password sync.

eBuddy maybe?
Doesn't recognize added yahoo accounts in my list.

Just wanna add: I also tried to migrate to opera once, in the end it came up to twin usage.
Some stuff was not able to do with opera, like finding a good pass-entering-tool.

However, everyone should experience it on their own.

ehhhhhhhwwwwww opera:eek3:
m using 3 browsers now.... opera , firefox and chrome

i say 1. is firefox and then chrome (its really fast) and then opera and yeah turn opera turbo on for fast browsing but don't use it for private trackers as its uses proxies

If you're on a slow connection only.

this suggestion was for a mod and u know who:naughty:

anon

Turbo's image quality sucks. :dabs:

I've used it in the past when my connection was extremely slow, but it's not something I'd recommend for everyday usage.

yeah you're right but its good if you want to save your bandwidth
its good when u're downloading something and browsing at the same time

okay, so i tested 10.60 for a while and it's very good.
however i just see no reason why i should switch. not to mention the huge number of missing addons compared to the mozilla apps
