Needs some advice on playing Blurays on my HTPC. I have a Core i5 720 MQ with 4GB RAM running Windows 7 Ultimate, with a 9800 GT silent GPU. My Bluray reader is a LG . During movie playback CPU usage is only 5 - 15%.

I use PowerDVD 8 Ultra (Retail, legit) to play movies. The issue I am having is a slight shudder or dropped frames. The issue is especially noticeable when the camera pans or a character walks across the screen. The movement is not 100% smooth, there is a slight shudder that breaks up the smoothness, it is only just perceptible, but can get very annoying. MKV and DVD playback is smooth, just Bluray that seems to be effected :(

Any suggestions on how to improve playback?

I will tell you what works best for me:

1-[ K-Lite Codec Pack 5.9.0 FULL ] (http://www.free-codecs.com/download_soft.php?d=5749&s=775)

Don't and i mean don't download the mega pack , it's EVIL.

2- after installing k-lite install HD Pack 2.4 (http://www.dvbsupport.net/download/index.php?act=view&id=162) .

YOU SHOULD UNINSTALL ALL CODECS BEFORE DOING WHAT IS SUGGESTED.

Here it goes as follows:

1. ffdshow-tryouts,
2. CoreAVC for H.264 stuff, the decoding speed is amazing.

I've had a few issues with K-Lite's codec pack, getting rid of it and installing those two did the trick.

It might be something with your hardware or the windows because I've been using the mega pack for a very long time (Win XP, Win 7) and nothing happened.

Nothing too important, I guess - sometimes videos wouldn't play at all. FF7 also froze when a movie was supposed to be played (and that happens right after you run the game).

Never had any problems with it on windows..all video formats layed with no problems.
As for FFVII..ouch.I wonder if the newer versions have the same problem.

This is the OP, thanks everyone for the replies. I'm installing Klite Codec pack at the moment.

Does the latest version of MPC support Bluray play back (actual bluray discs, not ripped files)? Thecoolest suggested Kmplayer or Smplayer, do they support Bluray disc play back? I tried searching their sites, but couldn't find any evidence one way or the other. I tried Total Media Theater 3, but had same issues as WinDV 2010 (flashing screen and such).

Thanks again for replies :)

I'm not a bluRay expert nor i have tried playing a real BD disk myself

but a few hints might help:

have you tried copying the entire BD disc to the harddisk to make sure its not BD-Reader, HD-Speed problem?

(after doing the (copying) you can trying playing them from there and see)

also have you tried playing on another weaker/equal PC ? what were the results?
have you disabled your AntiVirus/ other memory hungry software (even if your pc has 4GB its still recommended to do that)
