You Know You've Been On SBI Too Long When
you dream about posting replies and topics on SBI forums :biggrin:

Today I dreamed I got banned at STB after cheating on a connected tracker. And after restoring a registry backup (don't ask me why, I know it's stupid), my account would still be disabled. Perhaps I need to drink less coke :unsure:

On topic:

someone says thanks to you and you tell him to use the Thanks button instead
someone makes a really good comment and you wish you could rep him
you ask for 50 posts and http://www.sb-innovation.de/enlighten/reputation/reputation_green.gifhttp://www.sb-innovation.de/enlighten/reputation/reputation_green.gif when giving some of your stuff away
for Mods: you meet someone stupid and wish he went away with two clicks :wink:

sometimes when I decide to either edit someone's post after I've already jumped into my pajamas, you decide you'd better get up, turn on the computer again, and do the editing deed.
Ya....you know you've been here too long if your doing the above.

-you see everybody using your cheating method
-you see mods on waffles and what.cd talking about you and planing your death instead of better scripts
-you start wanting trackers not to use them but to test RM and WM on it
-you are spending more time with a torrent to cheat then to actually download it

What's up, anon??
Are you getting as old to this place as I am??

Well.....I'm off to change my avatar again. I need something different again. Too many cute seal pics to choose from.

We are oldtimers, that's true. I miss the good old days. Things were pretty different back then. Of course, we'll probably be saying the same three years from now, because things will never be the same. :wermm:

Yup. I remember the good 'ol days too right after I joined up. I remember all the old guys too who of course are all gone away now. There were a few guys here from the old moofdev forum too that I recall who as I also recall never, rarely, or hardly ever posted. Some of course did quite often but like all things.....things change.

Ya. I remember all the old timers too. I even remember when I got my very first 'rep'.
It was from Rebound too. That was cool, I thought. I think it was about my posting as I recall. He just stated that he 'liked' my posts and I thought, 'ya...that's cool".

I don't think that there were as many people on the forum either, was there??
Well maybe there was it's just that only a few of them ( at least as far as what I can remember) really posted.

Yes. It was a time of discovery and youth wasn't it??

I received my first rep from Rebound (he was pretty active in the English section), too. It was for this (http://www.sb-innovation.de/f57/iceland-s-largest-bittorrent-tracker-wins-court-3057/#post22668) post, one of the very first ones I made when I began posting here. I liked the sound of "you have 1 new reputation comment" as well.

That's correct, we had way less active members than we do now. The forum as a whole didn't have a lot going on. I recall it'd get as much as 40 posts per day, only <10 of which would be made in the English section. I frequented the German area a bit and so managed to make a handful of posts every day.

Then along came DDJ's hack of the former Shu Mod, sharky's article about ratio cheating, by the end of 2008 the brand new mRatio, then some time later RM began receiving updates after years of nothing and the Extreme Mod was announced. They all got us waves of new users. Those days were crazy in comparison - it wasn't unusual to get 300+ posts per day, and there were occasions where I'd be making around 75 of those.

I compare what we're dealing with nowadays with 2009, and it feels like we're dying...

Well blow me down!!!

I remember that post. Holy Shmuck-a-roo!!

And I also remember the English section having not as many posts in comparison to the German section. In the beginning, I was a little hesitant to even join up because of the dominance of the German section. There was for sure much, much more going on in the German section at the time. It's pretty much split 50/50 right now I feel.

What do you mean by this??

I compare what we're dealing with nowadays with 2009, and it feels like we're dying..

You mean the amount of posts isn't as much now as it was during that brief period??

If so then think of it this way. Things aren't always going to be steady. Things have a natural tendency to 'roller-coast' their way around.

You also have to consider the competition of other forums out there as well. And I don"t just mean torrent or cheating sites. I mean other discussion forums. There's a lot of competition for users out there. Look at all the warez forums out there for example.

Almost every time I download some warez there's always some text file inviting me to come and sign up there.
How many warez sites are there??....about 50 million or so probably.
See what I mean about competition for users?? And those users have to spend at least some amount of time posting there or where-ever they go to spend time on the internet. They can't spend the whole evening on one site.
Some of us are the exception to be honest. Me, I've only got about 2 different sites that I visit. This one here and an RPG site.
Also, people do have change in interests. Much like Manas, Vation or tokio have/had before they figured that it's time to move on. And a whole lot of other good users that we had. People change interests.

Indeed the forum was much more German-centric back then. The fact that was also the default language of the forum UI for a short while didn't help, either. Nowadays I'd say that while activity on both is relatively balanced, the English area wins when it comes to P2P and cheating related stuff. From my uneducated perspective, most of what goes on the other side is either real-life politics discussion or BT drama.

Yes, you got that right. I meant that there isn't as much posting as we used to have in the past. I even miss the times when the Top-Hos drama took place and Melvin was dicking around with his other account, for example (even though I wasn't very amused back then). You may be right on that there are other forums where people flock to, but I'm a member on a lot more places and have observed this decline in posting on all of them to some degree, at least in the sections I frequent.

About Vation, td1, splicer, cheatos, SBfreak (just to mention a few), their departure from this place (total of partial) has meant a large loss to us. They were all excellent members. At least they let us know why they had to leave, others simply stopped logging in forever.

Oh, man!! Do you ever bring on the memories, anon.
I remember that post.
That was one of the first one's I made, too. I think I may have made that during the Juniors Hockey Championships ( I think it was at that time). '

And about the general number of posts going down. Maybe it's because people are realizing that the internet/computer are wreaking havoc on their social lives for example. Or maybe it's taking them away from their kids or their work while at home or they find that they need to recreation elsewhere doing something else. There's a gazillion reasons to be heard.

And yes, I remember the Top-Hos drama too. That was fun. You'd see people from here flock to his site and get on his 'sh**t list just so they could see their own name on it. Silly but fun too.

You mentioned a lot of good guys there. And I do remember the guys like splicer and many, many others too. But look at it also this way. Since life is a roller-coaster and this forum is also prone to roller-coaster events, new people will come, plant themselves here, and voila. You've got a new bunch of new guys that as time goes by, will become part of the old-gang. Except it'll be a 'new-old-gang' of sorts.

The challenge in all of that is trying to discern the outcomes of new forum users. That is, will such-and-such member mature into a dedicated and strong poster or is he/she/it just a passer-by or here just for the ride or do they just make one-liners which promotes nothing really. Posters who contribute to making one-liners are usually the people who spend little time here.

Some of the other users, who've been around for some time already are making their mark. They've established a trade-mark of sorts with respect to where they mostly post, what topics they usually start threads on, what their interests are with respect to what they mostly like to discuss apart from the general cheating topics this forum holds and so on and so on. Some of the one's who have established a trademark textually post little but post a lot with respect to their topical interests. I think you get the idea, anon.

You might think this forum has hit it's high in the past and maybe so. But maybe not. You never know. Bittorrent is growing. What do you think that means?? If bittorrent is growing and the knowledge of private torrent sites is making itself aware to bittorrent users who have to deal with ratio interests, so will people's knowledge of this place. Things have a way of 'floating' around the internet and making themselves heard to the masses. And if this place become known to a general population so will new users come to this place. Some stay. Some go. All in all there's still a long way for that roller coaster to go up and down before it stops anywhere.

It's still there and apparently operative on arcade.php, just no longer linked to anywhere in the forum. That was because of potential incompatibilities after switching to vB4, I think. When I was new here I spent many hours in there, trying to beat the then-top players, shahjinn and Omez.

This man speaks the truth.

Some more things I just remembered...

the spam fest when we released the PrE eMule mod with a post restriction. Many people had the great idea of spamming to get access to it. Nothing compared to the day VEM got released, though - that felt as if everyone had aimed their spam cannons at us.
me talking to half the forum via ICQ, and the other half through the "SpamBoX für Advanced User". I also used those resources to bug many of our German members to check my RSD translations.
the Supporter user class. I don't even recall whatever privileges being there got you, if any. I do know shoulder was there for as long as I can remember, and kept that title when he got promoted to Elite.

Well, I've never come across it either......ever.

Either that or we're just hallucinating about this 'supporter-class' thing. And if ain't that I'd say that cousin Murple with all his divine knowledge has all the answers.

Just a sec....
Be right back.
I got to go talk to cousin Murple and his artificially inseminated potato-spud and I'll have an answer for all of us in a jiffy.

( runs away....)

(...comes back)

Ok.
According to cousin Murple, we're all either bat-f**k insane or bat-f**k mundane for keeping to post on this thread.

It's like this.....according to the latest census and opinionated bat-duck insane Westboro Baptist Church who I'm sure your aware of is this religious establishment that we've all come across somewhere on the internet which has this ultra-mild disdain for everything that's homosexual;
all kinds of Conservatives and Republicans;
all Christians;
including gay and lesbian rights;
supporters of anything and anybody;
American soldiers,;
all kinds of politicians;
Canadians ( Don't know why. We hardly bother anybody. We just make bat-f**k insane statements once in-a-while);
Muslims;
everything Chinese;
all interior decorators;
and apparently Den Mark too ( I knew something smelled rotten there).

And as such, it's strongly construed that believing in this 'supporter-class' thing is making us (.er..not me of course. Just the rest of you :biggrin: )
believe that Bruce Lee is raping your house.

Holy contrived pumpkin, that's Bat F**k Insane!!!
