Secure your Bittorrent Clients

You might not have noticed it but I happens several times that when you finish seeding/leeching a torrent in a bittorrent client such as Vuze or uTorrent, not all connections from peers (outside world) are killed even after you have closed your bittorrent client.

There's a very easy 5 step process to cope up with this security issue


1. close off all your BT windows then go to command prompt and type

netstat -an

You'll see all the mass connections you still have to torrent client (that are not killed due to any reason). now lets nuke those hard links.


2. (If you have a router then release your IP from the router interface)
leave it released open a command prompt and type ipconfig /release

3. type ipconfig /flushdns to flush those active hardlinks


4. then type ipconfig /renew then renew your IP from the router interface.

5. type netstat -an and this will show you the results.


EXTRA TIP :: 1. You may also create a *.bat file if you dont want to repeat the procedure mentioned above.

2. Run that bat file every time you close you BT client in order to kill any remaining active hardlinks.

Connections to peers are always killed when you close your client. But some will still want to connect to you. Better than trying to change your IP with a method that doesn't always work would be to set your firewall to block incoming connections after you close uTorrent :biggrin:

nice one, i made the batch file and it really makes a difference easpecially if u wanna play an online game, minimizes the lag :p
