It is always closed. I mean always. Except for one day this year, which I think was done in conjunction with a P2P new blog - the day I got in. Invites are hard to come by, as it doesn't have the largest amount of members(<5000); also you have to be a power user to recieve invites, and to be a PU you need to have uploaded 100gB.
