atleast it goes to my advantage, I don't understand romanian but snatchlist kinda reveal your activity at a glance when mods see it. I only use modded bitcomet tools on filelist and hence I don't make many announces like on TL to cover my traces. Good to know it's not coming back.
They had one but they removed it now.Not sure why.
They have a lot of users, so maybe they tried to decrease the pressure put on the server by removing the snatchlist. Zamunda is much bigger than them and still keeps one, but it only shows the name of the torrents you've snatched, nothing else.

I also noticed I'm still logged in after a day, whereas before I'd have to reauthenticate even if I kept my cookies from the old session.

Yes, sorting isn't allowed at all, to reduce server load, I suppose - they have 180000+ users.

And yes, FL.ro for the win. It's the romanian TorrentLeech, but a great international content tracker as well. It's one of the trackers I use the most.
Thanks for the informative overview, I was lucky enough to find an invite to this tracker a couple of weeks ago, motivated by the great comments i read on this forum about it, i thought that maybe they were a little exagerated, but now that i'm in, i have to say that i'm really surprised to see how good this tracker is, also i'm surprised to see how underrated it is as well. This tracker blows the shit out of most of those "you'll never gonna get an invite l33t trackers" that are out there. Great content, great speeds, a lot of freeleech, very good pretimes too, very easy to seed.

Of recent, FL.ro has kept up with TL in releases of BRRips, and good seeders too. FL.ro and TL are probably the only sites one may ever need (except for music of course).

You can always cheat wish lesser speeds like 1MB/s on torrents with no so much activity.
I don't think FL.ro even cares about activity, but it's always a good idea to pick an active torrent. Excepting the PMR (and flashing in general), any tool should do.

I tried now and it's the same. I use uTorrent and Vuze and it's the same message.
I get that in the first minute i start my PC.Not sure why but after that i update and it works.Did you tried a restart for utorrent?

That's on their rules, but they don't care at all. It's easier to ask members not to hit & run, rather than installing a script to deter such activities (which would increase the servers' load).
What's happening with FL? They're down for 2 days now.

I've had to use Filelist to download some exclusive packs recently, and observed all torrents seem to include the PublicBT UDP tracker's URL on them now. Besides enabling effort-free ghostleeching (just remove the FL.ro URL) and increasing overhead, I don't know why they're doing that. :huh:
You could say it's to provide a fail-safe in case the main tracker goes down, but the drawbacks far outweigh that advantage, in my opinion.

Anyway, if you look at all the FL.ro comments in this forum, it appears rules are taken rather lightly there - they don't care about cheating, trading, etc., just don't be an idiot and try to seed what you've snatched. That and the large number of users makes the place awesome (for me, of course).

Today marks 10 years since this website is up and running. This might very well be the perfect moment to announce that we are shutting down, right?
I'm obviously kidding, we are barely getting started! Dear community,
We are entering the "holy week" and we would like to organize a few contests because we need your help. On 4th of September we celebrate our 12th anniversary, thus starting today up until September 7th global FreeLeech will be enabled. Besides that, every 24 hours you can claim your anniversary gift by clicking on the gift in the bottom left corner. Before revealing the contests that start today I would like to offer some context.

Roughly 2-3 years passed since we first started thinking of changing the source code that gives life to our website. Even though over the years we have optimized the existing code base hugely, we are convinced that we can do better. The code is old and any tracker that is based on old sources like TBDev is bound to have some issues at some point. We want to avoid this.
Obviously, our first thought was to migrate to Gazelle (for those that don't know, Gazelle is one of the best tracker sources out there) but the huge problem was we would still have to re-code a lot of it to make it fit our needs. Gazelle is mainly focused on music and us being a general tracker, it would require core changes. However, even if let's say we would make those changes, it still wouldn't really fit our needs.
With that in mind, one and a half years ago we began coding everything from scratch. We have built it from ground up, inherently build it around our needs and wishes (the community needs and wishes, because yes, we do see every suggestion and request you make). To accomplish this we have used cutting edge technologies which allowed us to reach our goal: performance.
There's no point in chasing our tails, so here are some details of what we are doing:
- for those with technical knowledge: OOP coding pattern, PHP 7.2+ native, PDO MySQL with prepared statements (better security), Memcached, javascript, Bootstrap 4 front-end framework. We are using state of the art security functions, AES-256 encryption and for hashes only SHA-256. Because everything is OOP it will be a lot easier to maintain and upgrade the code base in the future.
- everything is built from scratch, we have copied nothing over from the old source.
- we have improved the torrent structure, implemented new categories and options. The browse page will look different.
- we are changing our search engine to something modern with realtime indexing capabilities (includes the new torrent filters).
- native language system. The website will be 100% Romanian or 100% English, no mixing anymore. The only content that won't be translated is the user content (forum posts, torrent comments) but you are free to talk in English anywhere and if you need help with something our community will gladly help you and respond in English. We have a lot of Romanians and foreign users that know/speak English.
- modern & responsive design. Users will be able to create themes and share them with the community.
- two new user classes and some changes to privileges.
- performance will be greatly enhanced, allowing us to implement pretty much anything the community will ask for.
There is much more to be said, but we really don't want to spoil all the surprise.
As a small comparison between our current source (and I repeat, it does work good) and the new one that we code:
- on the old one, because of the way the old code is written, roughly 40-45 queries (per visit) to the database are required to display the main forum page;
- on the new one we have cut that down immensely, 3 queries are required in case of a server restart, otherwise one query per visit is all we need. This brings a huge performance boost and it will allow us to enable things that are normal to have on a forum.
Sure, we could have re-coded it on the current source, however the lowest we could bring the query count would still be too high.
The amount of work that we need to do is far from small. We are also upgrading the entire database (structure, tables, fields, data, etc.) and considering that we also have a personal life, family, job, etc. it takes much more time than we have wanted. I think that any technically skilled person that understands what we are doing knows that the amount of work that needs to be done is massive. At the end of the day FileList is just a hobby and there are moments when we didn't have time to work on this at all. Even so, we are 50% done.
And why would I tell you all of this? Well, first, we don't want you to think that we do not want to improve our lovely website. Second, we need a new logo and some new forum icons. There will be more contests and information to follow in the near future. The prizes are worth your while in my opinion and contests will stay open much longer than the anniversary ones.

i don't know where 10 days has passed since than :confused: for me it was like it happend last month or so- maybe where i do same things each day - i remeber when i was in school when i've felt a year passing like it was a decade now is the other way around

overhere moslty tv-shows - also compared to other trackers la scenefz fl.ro has a lack of romanian content since they don't allow that or something - public trackers are good when it comes to download something shared recently because on older stuff rarelly you will find seeders - the cons of public trackers - at least on private they still are 2-3 seeders

It's been one more year of FileList, which means we are 13 years old.
Since the last anniversary we have changed our main domain, we introduced the API which enables programatically searching for torrents, we have improved the relevancy of the results reeturned by the search engine and we made a few major improvements and modifications to the tracker. We could say it was a somewhat active year.
Slowly, but surely, the development of the new site is still ongoing. We know you are eager to have it, because so are we.
There will be a staff only closed beta, after which an invitation based beta will start in which you (the users) will also be able to participate.

We thank all of our users, seeders and donors, whose dedication has contributed to our success, we thank our uploaders, for their work, desire and availability every day. I love the anniversary event, don't miss it!
I got like 100gbs from their free gift, you literally wont have to do anything apart from loggin in and clicking a gift box, the site at this point without even freeleches feels freelech at all times.
They were always easy to seed on, but extending freeleech, adding coins and the post-2017 boom in popularity made them reach Monty Haul levels. Ratio and buffer are basically meaningless there... not that I have any complaints, and retention is better than you'd expect.
It is a very good General Tracker and easy to maintain good Ratio.
I recently joined MAM and will become power user in a week or so. Is the filelist recruitment thread on MAM still active? Last I heard the recruiter was not active in that thread. I would really like to join filelist. Appreciate any update regarding this. Thanks.

I think it is inactive, but unofficial invites are very often offered in MAM's forum. And also here in sb-i in the giveaway thread!

Dear ones,
I'm sorry to have to make this announcement, but this is where our tracker comes to an end. It is important that you understand and accept this decision. Although it was a difficult one, it was taken after careful evaluation and for good reasons.
Unfortunately, I no longer have the time to run the site. A site like this requires quite a lot of commitment and my priorities in everyday life have changed in recent years. Time is the most precious resource for all of us and I have invested enough time here.
I wanted to leave the site to someone else, who would take care of the community in the future, but unfortunately I don't have anyone to leave it to. ToXiC, the one who was going to take my place is no longer with us.
This is quite the responsibility, we have a large number of users who also have sensitive data that cannot be left in anyone's hands. Abuses can be made and whoever has absolute power can decide anything regarding everything related to the community, so obviously a reliable, capable person is needed who also has very advanced technical knowledge to ensure the security of our users and proper functioning of the site.
It is quite difficult to find such a person who is integrated here and shares the same values and has the same dedication that you have enjoyed for the last 16 years.
I decided that the best thing to do is to close the site rather than risk something like this.
I'm truly sorry, I've also put a lot of work into this and I've always had the community at heart.
As a SysOp I thank you for your active involvement in our community. I deeply appreciated the valuable contributions, the passion you brought and the effort you put in. FileList would not be what it is today without the involvement of all of you!
What happens from now on?
From this moment on, donations are closed and the amount we have covers expenses for the next 2-3 months.
During this time you can still enjoy the site, download what you need from here and post your goodbye message in the thread.
After ~3 months, sometime around January 2024, the site will be closed permanently.

This is not right. It is the best tracker and the reason I don't have to join elite trackers that will ban me just because they can. Losing RARBG and FL is just too much damage :wbite:

I am on a few mid-tier trackers like BLU, MTV, GGN, CG, etc but FL always felt like home to me. It was one of the best trackers for newbies with great community and invite forums. Really saddened to see this tracker go. I really hope they manage to find a new sysop in time and hand the site over to them. :frown:

One thin silver lining is that the shutdown process is being handled in the best possible way. New Year 2024 is enough time to download bookmarked torrents, archive exclusive ones, and use your profile link as proof for joining other trackers. Those who were active in the community get to say their farewells and coordinate efforts to create a new meeting place. Existing funds will be used until they run out, so no one can accuse staff of doing a cash grab (not that they were pay2win or ever sent PMs begging for donations).

Same. I've been a member way before they went international, and it's always been among my Top 3 most used accounts, despite having "better" ones like ScT and SCC. I think the combination of good layout, good content and not having to spend lots of time building a buffer before you could enjoy them did the trick for me. For a clone of a (now long-defunct) international tracker started by a Romanian guy, they sure got places and made history.
Alternatives include TL, IPT, AR and SpeedApp. TL is known to open signups whenever something like this occurs, as recently as with RARBG last June, and will probably do so either now or when the shutdown is finalized.

Do you have any suggestion of best place as an alternate. TL is not one as whenever i checked any classic movies in 1980s, TL will have 0 seeds where as FL will have atleast 1 seed and will get not less than 3 mbps everytime.

If you expect to find a perfect replacement, I have bad news for you, and that's why everyone's so distraught over this.
Anyway, we have approximately three months until any torrent that hasn't been cross-seeded somewhere else is effectively lost. Grab whatever you need now and don't forget to seed back... speaking of which, they had the most relaxed seeding time requirements of all major general trackers... ugh!

While not torrent-related, I routinely used AnonFiles to transfer data in both directions and therefore also count it among this year's big losses.

My proverbial money's on the latter. Starting a new tracker requires a lot of upfront work, and due to the network effect, people are more likely to gravitate towards established alternatives. In fact, TL has already opened signups for FL members.
An addendum to the announcement was posted today, although it basically says "we're not backpedaling on this".
I think a few clarifications are necessary...
1. A good part of you suggested that we should introduce a subscription of a few euros as if that would solve something...
It was never about money. ALL of our staff members did voluntary work. No one earns money here, it was and it is a hobby for everyone. That is the purpose of a site like FileList, to be free, people donate as much as they want and when they want. The community has kept the site alive all this time. That's why you didn't see ads, weren't bombarded with messages about donations, etc. The donations covered the necessary costs and everything was OK all this time.
2. Let's leave the conspiracy theories aside. Not everything is a conspiracy...
Since 2020 I've been trying to leave the site to someone else... I've tried 2 times already. These things take time, trust is hard to win, you don't know a person in 1-2 months so that I can leave the site to anyone that pops up now.
Just the idea that someone comes and starts thinking of this site as a business and starts making money with it and that's enough. I don't want anyone to destroy what FileList meant and means.
3. Related to alternatives because people kept asking. If we find a good alternative, I promise to let you know here. Don't create accounts on all kind of websites. Not everywhere is like it was on FileList, don't be naive. Be careful where you register. Be patient as there is time... do not rush.
4. Related to the database... it will be completely deleted at the end. All users benefit from security and anonymity. So for all those who ask for the database, it is more than obvious that we will never give it to anyone.

You know that over the years, I've always said that the community has a significant voice. Your words have always mattered, and we've never been indifferent to them. Your voice has been heard, even now.
I am delighted to announce that the website will not be shutting down!
Donations are now reactivated, so everything is returning back to normal.
One of the founders of the website, God, is back and will take over the technical aspect to ensure the site continues to thrive. He is trustworthy, loyal, and things will certainly go well from this point of view.
However, we also needed someone to take care of the other aspects of the work. From now on, Oana will handle everything related to the staff, server payments, and all the internal matters that a SysOp does. She will get promoted to the SysOp class. She is more than capable and competent to maintain control and ensure that everything runs smooth internally. Congratulations!
Together, they will continue the necessary work to keep this website alive.
That being said, this announcement will be my last. I, EboLLa, am permanently retiring from the community.
I want to personally thank you all for all the private messages and wishes you've sent me. There have been so many, and I genuinely appreciate them from the bottom of my heart. You are all wonderful, and I appreciate each and every one of you!

I think the expression "deus ex machina" has never been more appropriate. This was pretty much the only possible way to turn this around. Chain of trust is a huge thing when recruiting staff, and for a replacement sysop, that would apply hundredfold.

Yes and their decision of closing down was appropriate without having a trustworthy staffs to take over. with that number of user data its so dangerous to give to an unknown.

Filelist is still a great general tracker, can find everything I need.
Invites are open again after nearly four months, but with many new restrictions in place: lootboxes can no longer award temporary VIP or invite codes, single invites cost 30,000 coins in the shop, 30-day VIP status is no longer available, and permanent VIP has gone up to 100,000 coins.

IMO it is a bit too much but might be worth it, FL needs to be ahead of the game compared to TL and IPT.
