    Hardest videogames you've ever played

Eversion - after several dozen attempts, I got to the ending... or at least, the one you get without 100% completion.
Irisu Syndrome - easy to learn, very difficult to get through. Has an interesting story.
Cat Mario - okay, this one was designed to be so.
Contra - just wasn't meant to be won by a regular human in single player mode.
ADOM - it took me six years to get my first and only win.
Doom - in Nightmare difficulty, it's exactly that.
Alien Trilogy - in Xenomania difficulty, enemies respawn but ammunition does not.
Tekken 2 - in Ultra Hard mode, the computer blocks 95% of your attacks and throws impossible combos one after the other.

Dark Souls type of games! OMG I rage when I play them!
I'm playing Pathfinder Kingmaker now, and it's hard as well.

It's hard to remember which ones are hardest for me since if it's too hard, it's unenjoyable and will be forgotten quickly.

Contra - only played when was a child, at that time every game on NES seems hard, eg.The Legend of Kage, Mario or Hudson's Adventure Island. never clear them.
Influence - an Android game played last year. some weekly tournament map is hard and few could pass.
VVVVVV - clear is medium difficulty, clear perfectly is soooo hard.
Spelunky - roguelike, only 1 life to clear and no save. too hard for me

The hardest ones also without unenjoyable I feel is PvP games. beating another real guy is hard.

NES games were pretty much forced to be hard because hardware limitations didn't allow super complex storylines or level design. If you visit Speedrun.com, you'll see that an expert player can beat Contra or Super Mario Bros in little over five minutes. But if a videogame took more time to buy than to actually finish, the average person would want their money back

True roguelikes (as opposed to games that copy their gameplay concepts or aesthetics but not difficulty) are super tough. NetHack was my first but I never won it, in fact I barely got anywhere.

If there's something I've learned from my MMORPG days, it's that no matter how experienced, strong and well-equipped you are, there's always someone better than you. A valuable life lesson As the saying goes: always try to be the best, but never think you actually are.

Ah, that reminds me. I tried the new "Insane" difficulty in Warzone 2100 around two months ago and couldn't get past the sixth mission, even though I had no problem beating the entire game in "Hard" before

Oh man, wasn't the "this was a dream, now go do all that shit again" ending amazing. At least we can now get back at the game by watching a TAS run.

One more that I've just remembered.

I recently remembered this beauty and how it was almost impossible to get either good card drops or enough starchips to "buy" them. To top it off, the rules were different from the real-world card game (because it didn't exist at the time). Massive grinding or GameShark mandatory.
