    SSup my peeps....

Metalheads always stick together and in my short time here all the regular poster of this thread have become me bros...

I'll be gone for a while so here's my contribution for the time being....

I've said this before I'll say it again...I love compilations...By anybody or about anything...I just love em...

During my extensive search I came across this magnificent compiler(!?!!) Biomechanicall(His first account was named Biomechanical but he had to change it for some reason). He makes the most incredible metal music compilations I've had the pleasure of listening...I highly HIGHLY recommend listening to them...Disappointingly,very few know him and thus these torrents have bad seeds...I'm not on any of the private music trackers but I can bet his collections will rock the hell outta any of them...

whats wrong with violins (or any other instrument for that matter) enriching metal music? surely better (or more interesting) than just sticking to the old (severely prostituted) formulas

Guess nothing wrong if its only prelude or some minor piece because I see (hear!) nothing that would put this thing solely into metal genre. But I could criticize similarly quite some clips so I will not, let the metal evolves as it wishes ! Will just try to enjoy music.

    edit:

    contributing to topic,

violins put to good use ^^

the following selection of songs will be a career overview of Nightwish, one of the leading bands from the 'Operatic/Symphonic Power Metal' genre, all chosen from their 2009 boxed-set Lokikirja:
    Nightwish-Lokikirja-2009-8CD-JUST

from the selection you'll notice that my favorite albums are:
    Oceanborn (1998)
    Once (2004)
notice also that all songs are sung by their (former) female operatic lead vocalist Tarja Turunen, except for the last one, sung by her less-able successor Anette Olzon

a little background story & criticism:
the band male leader(s) got somewhat intoxicated by rising fame & record sales and started to be increasingly interested in their image/perception in the media - the fact that their charismatic female vocalist was getting more attention than them & their wish to appeal more to mainstream masses led to unfair/deceitful actions, like album down-mixing of the lead vocals up to the culmination with an insulting 'open' letter to the vocalist with all kinds of complaints and excuses attempting to justify the decision to get rid of her - but as things have a way of coming back in a kind of karmic justice, after this incident the former vocalist continued her (now) solo career successfully, whereas the band hired a non-operatic female vocalist with pop tendencies (aligning with their latest songs that are pretty much 'sell-outs' to the pop audience), thus losing much of their previous admirers and fans, turning from a metal icon into a profit/image-obsessed mediocrity on their newer albums

    on with the songs:

    from Angels Fall First (1997):

    Nightwish - Angels Fall First

    Nightwish - Lappi (Lapland) I-IV

    from Oceanborn (1998):

    Nightwish - Stargazers

    Nightwish - Gethsemane

Nightwish - Passion and the Opera

    Nightwish - Moondance (instrumental)

Nightwish - The Pharaoh Sails to Orion

Nightwish - Walking in the Air

    Nightwish - Sleeping Sun

    from Wishmaster (2000):

    Nightwish - Wishmaster

    Nightwish - Fantasmic

from Over the Hills and Far Away (2001, EP):

    Nightwish - 10th Man Down

    from Century Child (2002):

    Nightwish - Bless The Child

Nightwish - Dead To The World

Nightwish - Beauty Of The Beast (Long Lost Love, One More Night To Live, Christabel)

    from Once (2004):

Nightwish - Dark Chest Of Wonders

    Nightwish - Planet Hell

    Nightwish - The Siren

    Nightwish - Dead Gardens

    Nightwish - Ghost Love Score

    from Dark Passion Play (2007):

Nightwish - Cadence Of Her Last Breath

is it just me or that new iron maiden song was way below their abilities, hopefully the new album is not comprised of similar stuff, anyways here's an old tune to wash away the bitter taste:

Iron Maiden - Transylvania (live, instrumental)

    @Snitlev
awesome Immortal song (and live performance) choice here's another great one:

Immortal - Years Of Silent Sorrow

the rest are other great songs from what some of the above mentioned artists have to offer:

    Samael - Angel's Decay

    Satyricon - Mother North

    Wolf - Electric Raga

    Behemoth - Decade Of Therion

    Kreator - Lost
