Hehe, haven't done a review in a long time, so here goes. ThePlace, as you may have realised by now, is the sister site of TheVault, TheBox, and TheOccult. All being very niche trackers, ThePlace is no exception, speacialising in lifestyle content.
Due to this being a sister site, the visual lay out is much like it's relatives; banner across the top with relative links. It would also be a safe assumption to make that these sites also use the same BitTorrent tracking software.
As mentioned, ThePlace specialises in "lifestyle content" - a very broad and unspecific term, so what is it? From their "Browse" categories, it seems to cover a lot! "Alpha male example clips" (don't ask me) to health and fitness, as well as sex ( hehe). It also covers magic, fighting, and psychology.
As long as it falls within a browse category, it can be uploaded. A unique feature to the upload process is that a torrent uploaded, can actually be exclusive to defined user.
The site maintains an active forum, where one can go to socialise. They have a section where users can even write a journal, as well as other parts where social problems are presented, such as girlfriend issues. ThePlace also has it's own IRC channel, with a Java IRC applet inbuilt into the "Chat" section of the site, making it easy to talk with other members.
Another feature within this site, as well as TheVault, is group buys. I don't seem to have got the full message as to what it is, but it seems like a group of users, will pledge Gb (as in gigabytes of upload) to put in a certain amount of money to buy an item which will then be uploaded to the site.
Other parts of the forum include technical help, and site suggestions, as well as an other site section. Here you can get free invites for the likes of What.CD, PTP, and AnamaToonic, but please don't take advantage.
Speeds can vary greatly; there are quite a few seedboxes, as users try to increase their ratio honestly, but many use their home connections (... to seed a DVD-R!)
In concerns to cheating there I have used the Azureus Extreme Mod, no spoofing, with a fake upload of 20 to 30kBps. Because they use a custom port, the NRPG RatioMaster does not work there.
In conclusion, as all niche trackers go, you need to be the right person to take full advantage of the site. If perhaps your lifestyle falls into one of the categories below (view screenshot) then this site may well be for you. Invites are hard to get, as a low user account persists, but I beleive there is an IRC method.
