    Dupe account & IP Location Concern Help (Insights greatly appreciated)

    Hello all! Thank you very much to the site staff for keeping this great place alive. It really sparked hope in me when I found out my account was disabled. I plan to go through the recruitment again.

    I have read the following thread,
    https://www.sb-innovation.de/showthr...other-concerns
    https://www.sb-innovation.de/showthr...tiple-accounts
    https://www.sb-innovation.de/showthr...-Trackers-Know

    Again, thank you for the write-up Anon and others for the great input. I only have 1 question and it does not seem to be addressed extensively.

    How is IP location handled on trackers?
    I am on cable network and can change my IP address freely (16 bit normally, 32 bit if I am lucky with router reset). What does not change is my DHCP pool, or location. All my new IPs point to the same city, or its vicinity. Is it very risky to join again since they might get sus why another user joined from a banned user’s location? If so, is there anyway to circumvent the issue? (The last resort would be purchasing a dedicated IP address..). Anon, I saw you mentioned you used to hold 4 active accounts on What.CD so I assume IP location was not a big deal?

    Thanks to everyone who can chip in!!

    If you are curious about my story, here it goes..
    Essentially, after about a year on a cabal network site, I was told to join the help IRC one day to discuss “some urgent matters”. Over the IRC, the mod told me someone in my invite tree is trading/selling invites. They had to cut down the whole invite tree shortly after they finalize more evidence. They said I am a good-standing member in the community and asked for my other PT sites account to see my performance elsewhere. In the end, they said I am not qualified enough to be immune from the tree ban.

    That depends greatly on which location it is. If you're from a large American or European city, they aren't going to look twice in most cases. If it's a faraway country with low Internet penetration like Rwanda or Belarus whose member count is likely in the single digits, there'll be a lot of eyes upon you, to put it mildly. That's why most trackers are adamant about registering from your real address and not using CGNAT, mobile Internet or shared VPNs - it dilutes their ability to perform this kind of access control. (Very few of them are IPv6-ready, but I expect them to treat a /64 like an IPv4 /32 when that changes.)

    I live in the largest city of my continent's second-largest country, so creating and maintaining those four accounts (which were all ultimately given away) didn't take a lot of work, but your circumstances could be different. Also, that was a long time ago...

    How does that work exactly?

    Never do this. It's just a trick to make you talk and see if you can incriminate yourself, or simply say something that makes you look guilty. Use your head: staff don't need you to give them profile links to get you banned on other trackers, why would they "urgently" ask for them to "see your performance" there? And how would that prove you don't have complicity in the invite selling done by someone else?

    These places aren't democracies, so presumption of innocence and benefit of doubt don't exist. With so many active members not drawing any negative attention, and many non-members who will be very pleased to join them as soon as they can take the spot you've freed up, if your overall site record looks like something staff can afford to lose, that's the treatment you're going to get. Sucky, but it is what it is. Here are some resources to illustrate this reasoning...

    That is good to know. Yeah my location is close to a few major cities on a big continent.

    So, I believe in my city, the ISP has several “hubs” and each of them has its own IP series. Each series is completely different from each other. After I reset my IP, it will connect me to a new hub, sometimes with totally different IP address. But the geo-location does not change much, which worries me. Do you think those staff would go out of their way to look up each incoming user’s ip provider and location?

    Man this makes me feel so sad. The way some of those mods treat users stress out users or force them to break rules (dupe account for instance). I saw a few more Reddit posts with people being disabled because of tree bans recently. I get why they are doing it but they are too ruthless sometimes when they ask for proof dated months or years ago.

    In the end, on other trackers I am a member of for many years, I do have access to the official recruitment (they just opened it a while back), do you think it is risky to go through those? Although I changed my IP now, those other sites might have a history of my other IPs. Do they share that to recruiters?

    Or I should apply to a new site with completely new IP, then slowly level up myself and apply through official requirement?

    Thanks a lot Anon!!

    From these questions I can deduce you haven't read the links I posted Any old accounts that can be linked to the one(s) you've lost are a grenade with the pin pulled. Drop everything, follow the guides and start over, it'll be less painful in the long run.

    According to what you're telling me, it doesn't seem like IP address will be a major factor as long as you do everything else well. If you have a Linux shell at hand, here are some commands to give you potentially useful information (which most staff have one-click access to).

    Code:
    IP=$(wget -q -O- -U "" -4 http://ipcheck1.jdownloader.org/)
    ASN=$(wget -q -O- -U "" https://ipinfo.io/$IP/org | cut -d " " -f 1)
    # All IPv4 prefixes for your AS number
    # Note ISPs can have more than one ASN, and this doesn't mean all of these blocks are available to you
    wget "https://stat.ripe.net/data/announced-prefixes/data.yaml?min_peers_seeing=0&resource=$ASN&data_overload_limit=ignore" -q -O- -U "" --compression=gzip --no-http-keep-alive | grep prefix\: | grep -v \:\: | awk '{print $3}' | uniq
    # Full IP2Country data for your address
    wget "http://ip-api.com/json/$IP?fields=66846719" -q -O- -U "" --compression=gzip --no-http-keep-alive

    Hi Thank you for the reply! I actually read most of the link actually, especially the leak and log of IRC/internal chat. Those staff are really dedicated.. I was asking that somewhat stupid question was because I had many attachment to my old sites. Since that cabal network one was the only one disabled me, I wanted to keep the memory of my other sites instead of starting over.. I know what you meant though. It does save more hassle in the long run. Thanks Anon. I saw you started giving advice to other users a decade ago. Thanks for helping out all of us. Have a good one!!

    Well, you can run your buffers into the ground before hitting the reset button!

    I live to serve. Besides, this particular issue has only gotten worse since then...
