A small addition: in Compaq machines old enough to be irrelevant today, F12 will let you access either the BIOS or the boot menu depending on the model.

I already have it, and much more :) I will do it sometime this week.
For those that are worndering why I wrote these in this weird layout is because that's how I write notes in my text files. 3 line space similar items, 4 lines space for different areas.

Depends on the motherboard. Newer motherboards 2010-present have in the BIOS an option to update it using a .bin rom file copied to a USB stick or HDD.
If you do not have that option in your BIOS, you will need to get a Windows 98SE startup disk and execute it from there.

If your motherboard is from this decade, chances are the BIOS update can be flashed from Windows and without rebooting.

ALSO WORKS WITH TPM AND SECURE BOOT

You can reinstall windows10/11 there without deleting files or make a clean installation
but all programs will be gone

And I also found that if you press SPACE during POST it will pause the screen. Very useful to read when the timeout is set too short.

This is from my laptop's BIOS update guide.

BIOS Recovery

Copy MPxxxxp.cap to root directory (not in any folder) of the USB flash drive and rename to BIOS.cap
On the Marble Point keyboard (a USB keyboard can NOT be used) press: the function key and the R key at the same time. Fn+R
Plug in AC and the LED will blink.
Press power button.
The BIOS will update and the computer will shut off.

It would be nice to collect hidden tricks like these too, but there must be dozens, and most of them model-specific.

Most of these come from my own experience, but I also got them from someone that had them written in pencil on sheets of paper. They got so old it's difficult to read.

Thanx alot for this, i have Lenova laptop that i bought from someone long time agio and the bios was lcoked, i still can enter bios but cant make changes, some people could help but i have to send my laptop to them so they do something with hardware? is that true?
