A Silent Voice (Koe no katachi)

A story about an elementary school boy whose class receives a deaf girl as a transfer student. Creeped out by her use of a notebook to communicate with others and her politeness, he bullies her to the point she's forced to change schools again, and becomes hated by everyone for it, even his fellow bullies. Five years later, tormented by this past, he makes it his mission to find her again and make amends for his mistakes, also reconnecting with other former classmates in the process.

It's a pretty powerful story, but it had some shortcomings. Firstly, the deaf girl pretty much gets treated as a one-dimensional doormat, whose only purpose is to keep the plot going. Secondly, the protagonist is supposed to be a really anxious high school boy who is hated by everyone for being a former bully, yet somehow he ends up visiting an amusement park with a large group of friends halfway through the movie. Finally, the ending felt rushed and somewhat ambiguous. Did he succeed or not? His relations with the girl improved, but he's unable to enter his own classroom or look anyone in the eye during the school festival, and some of his friends/classmates still seem to resent him.

The piano-centric soundtrack did a good job setting the mood, but was otherwise forgettable, except for the songs that play when Shoko is introduced, during the train trip, and the credits roll.

    7/10.

    12 Strong (2018) 2/10

a few examples of nonsensical plot/dialogue:
    - 'no one has ever flown a chopper this high, this far' - viewer response: 'no one has ever lied as much as hollywood this far'
    - 'two minutes (to deploy forces), wake up!' - makes perfect sense, no?
    - usa troops on a secret mission behind enemy lines, yet their contact tells them 'the whole country knows you're here'?!
    - 'before he sells us to the highest bidder' - why would a local warlord sell new usa assets, that can improve his own fame and position? lol
    - 'the enemy has a high price on your heads' - because 'the whole country knows you're here', right?

    - usa troops were led by a farm boy (cowboy?) who doesn't have a day of combat experience, gotta love those myths
    - usa troops have ex history teachers who got into a fight over a girlfriend and had to choose the military to escape prison, gotta admit they have some innovative recruiting techniques (uncle sam needs you... recruited)
    - 'if one american die, your government leaves' - uh, nope, they are still in afghanistan, it has been 17 years and thousands of dead usa soldiers
    - dialogue on how to spot the enemy: warlord uses phone to call his enemies... 'tell them you are taliban'... answer: 'america f*ck you!'... see? drop ur bombs now
    - dialogue on how to spot good warriors: 'they have killer eyes' - you know, the crazy stare shows you're a good fighter
    - americans on horses win vs. armed ground forces with tanks, twice? in your dreams
    - looks like the taliban need no coordinates, they just shout names like rasheed and hassan (not forgetting abdul ofc) and the missiles acquire the correct bearing automatically - thats more advanced than any usa weaponry, maybe if the muricans tried shouting 'uncle sam' or 'mossad' it might have worked for them too, lol
    - 'pulling back!' - but you already have the high ground and shelter and sniper and air strike advantage, while the enemy is in the valley in plain sight with no hiding areas
    - 'danger: close coordinates!'...'roger that, 20 seconds away' - our cowboy commander waits for the air strike to begin before he orders retreat, even though he could have had 20 seconds head start avoiding friendly fire casualties
    - also, they don't need to reload either... oh wait, our hero did reload... after the battle was over
    - 'you will be cowards if you leave and you will be enemies if you stay' - or how to justify usa presence in afghanistan 17 years later through movie propaganda
    - and a black soldier (who dishonors his ancestors by helping uncle sam enslave other nations around the world) thanks some afghan minor for looking out for him, while bribing him with usa chocolate

in the end it says 'their mission was classified' - which means there is no way to verify this story, not for many decades, so there will be plenty time to fabricate some evidence, if anyone bothers at all

oh yeah, afaik no one mentioned opium fields either... such poppycock

    conclusion:

more usa propaganda to cover up the 9/11 inside job
as a war movie it would get 5/10, but since it is an obvious propaganda piece, it gets 2/10, points scored for cinematography and (unintentional) humor

I haven't watched this one, nor do I plan to. These days it's impossible for Americans to make a war film without it coming off as propagandistic. Even Rambo movies, where the wars were an excuse plot to see Stallone do what he does (or did) best, are seen as such in retrospect by some.

World Wars I and II are probably an exception, since the unequivocally evil Nazis were involved, but 1. they have already been milked for all they're worth, and 2. wars aren't fought like that anymore, USA and allies can do a drone strike from a bunker on the other side of the world, and ground forces are more about presence, cleanup and winning hearts and minds rather than actual combat. Similarly, ISIS favors guerrilla tactics and hostile takeovers of civilian areas over "direct engagement".

this applies to all major and even minor (indie) movies in usa because such movies are regarded as vehicles to spread propaganda on certain topics of interest to a wide audience - as admitted by some bigwigs in the movie business, their aim is to change usa (and world) culture, ie. impose their own idea of what a 'one world culture' ought to be

it is a global movement, which means one can find similar developments in all other countries around the world, especially there where ties with 'the west' are the strongest

Even Rambo movies, where the wars were an excuse plot to see Stallone do what he does (or did) best, are seen as such in retrospect by some.
however, rambo movies were not primarily an attempt to recruit for or justify ongoing wars, unlike virtually all movies based on the 9/11 deception, showing how this propaganda got elevated to the next level of perfidiousness

World Wars I and II are probably an exception, since the unequivocally evil Nazis were involved
the reason why the evilness of the totalitarian nazi regime is so exaggerated and heavily used is to cover up war crimes by the allies, to silence any dissent or independent investigation into the pre-, during and post-war events, which aren't flattering to the victors

    want some ww2 examples?
    - 2x nuking civilians in japan when the outcome of the war was already clear
    - carpet bombing of german cities when the outcome of the war was already clear
    - intentional starvation in post-war concentration camps
    - post-war massacres, mass raping, death marches, mass executions of civilians and captured soldiers
    - involvement of the international elite in setting up, supporting and covering up of these events (ww1 & ww2)

they have already been milked for all they're worth
i wouldn't be too sure about that, proof:

    Darkest Hour (2017) Won 2 Oscars. Another 43 wins & 65 nominations.
    Dunkirk (2017) Won 3 Oscars. Another 56 wins & 204 nominations.

    Code:
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_World_War_II_films_since_1990#2010s
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Holocaust_films#2010s_2
it is fairly certain that some 90-99% of these movies were financed (to include the desired propaganda) by that same international elite

ground forces are more about presence, cleanup and winning hearts and minds rather than actual combat.
it is said that you cannot win any territory unless the ground troops secured it first (example: usa failure in vietnam)
'winning hearts and minds' by deceptive propaganda doesn't work in the long run, for it is said that 'the truth will set you free'

ISIS favors guerrilla tactics and hostile takeovers of civilian areas over "direct engagement".
thats because they are mainly mercenaries installed and supported by usa/cia, to destabilize, conquer and exploit the area
