    IKnowWhatYouDownload

    How we collect data

Our system collects torrent files in two ways: parsing torrent sites and listening DHT network. We have more than 1.500.000 torrents which where classified and which are using now for collecting peer sharing facts (up to 200.000.000 daily). We don't guarantee we can show ALL peer sharing facts:
    • Single IP address could be assigned to multiple users. It depends on user's ISP. For example mobile operators often used this schema.
    • IP address could be dynamic. In such case it changes every time user connects to the Internet or periodically.
    • User could download torrent which we don't have

I remember there was another site like this in the past, but this one is much more accurate. My list clearly shows a couple dozen of the public torrents I'm seeding right now, with only three false entries (and I got a "Likes porn" badge, muuu ).

    https://iknowwhatyoudownload.com/en/criminals/

While well-intended, I fear for any jurisdiction that considers this site to be evidence of anything, because it isn't. The mechanism used by them is very prone to both false positives and false negatives. Case in point: add any popular new torrent, deselect all files first, start it and then keep it running at 0% for a day or two. It will show up as downloaded even though you didn't transfer anything.

Now imagine someone installing a hidden copy of uTorrent on your computer while you're away, loaded with a bunch of 0% done child porn torrents, set to run on startup with boss mode (no interface), DHT and UPnP enabled, perhaps arranged to self-destruct after a few days... then reporting you using this site as "proof" of distributing CP.

This is quite the picture you have painted. I'm sure though that no matter which country you are from the authorities won't just blindly throw you in the slammer without investigating first.

Don't everyone's IP addrs change? IP assigned by ISP in my area changes every 1~2 days, causing none of files listed on the site are really downloaded by me. I've tried these kind of sites several times these years, and not even once did it display my downloads correctly. a little amazed that it even showed your correct files!

That's to be expected, as they retain entries for around a month since they were last seen on a particular IP. If yours stays the same for long periods of time and isn't shared with anyone else, you'll get better results.

Even so, every now and then I'll get "charged" with stuff I've never downloaded (false positives), and as of this writing they've only caught around a fourth of the public torrents I'm actually seeding (making the rest false negatives). Sometimes a random one will suddenly be discovered, they must be expanding their database regularly.

Oooh, visiting this site via shared VPN, Tor or CGNAT is like a box of chocolates Ironically, that and the "related torrents" list are a good way to find new stuff (they even pull IMDb information for movies and TV shows).
