having a cold !
Exhausted - it's already been a long day and I've got a bunch of school work just waiting for me.
Wow, this forum is like my personal Facebook. Several highlights of my life documented in this thread, including historical exchange rates!
I was thinking some hours ago, when I wrote that post about my e-mail accounts: I have written tons of posts, sent lots of e-mail, have thousands of downloads and personal files on my hard disks, and in turn, others' disks have files that have been made or uploaded by me. All of those things are timestamped, so they represent all the emotions, thoughts, experiences and things I've been interested on that I bothered to write or copy, at a particular point in time, to the extent text and binary data can represent them. If I died tomorrow, all of it would stay and live on: the tutorials I've written would still help others, the files I've uploaded would keep on being downloaded, the posts about random things I've made may still make people laugh or think or discuss...
A form of immortality has always been achievable by the works you've done, the memories others have of you, and the possessions you left behind - and this is no different as far as I'm concerned.

it would stay only if the forum remains functional, online or archived somewhere else, accessible to others or if some other enthusiast reignites interest in it later onOriginally Posted by anon
in most cases, as time goes by, the activity on such threads would diminish rapidly, which is closer to becoming forgotten
your activities are a (necessary) part of the chain of events that creates this worldly experience, no matter how scale-wise minor they may beOriginally Posted by anon
immortality means 'to exist in a permanent/unchanged/eternal state' - any state that (irreversibly) changes, no matter how minor the change, can therefore not be considered immortal
immortality does not depend on the timeline of events, whereas, as mentioned above, the relevance/impact/influence of those threads/posts does, actually quite significantly
finally, such a state of permanence also requires a very strong or supreme guarantee of its permanence (aka the divine)
depends on the availability of, say, electricity, hardware, software, orgware, networking, technology, resources, economy, maintenance, personnel, knowledge, interest/intent/effort, food/fuel/energy, earth/sun/planets/universe/environment, laws of nature, the adequate timeline, the availability of adequately conscious beings and circumstances, the adequate chain of events, etc, etc. - in other words, nowhere near immortalityOriginally Posted by anon
basically, immortality (of anything or any thing or the term itself) depends only on one thing, the origin/originator/source of immortality, and nothing else
oh, and i felt like commenting on the topic of immortality (staying on-topic hehe)
i'm having a migraine and that has nothing to do with slikrapid deep posts, they have only intesified my migraine after reading'it )) joking

I started noticing that after I watch a movie or a few episodes of tv show, on my TV, I get a headache. I never had this problem before! :(
eyes problem...kinda the same here ..or we getting old
That's indeed often an indication you should get your eyes checked out. At first, I found it hard to believe I needed glasses since I thought my vision was fine. Turns out it wasn't fine at all. Only really started when it was bothering me with the headaches.

I already have glasses/contacts for almost 20 years now. I'll be sure to ask the doctor next time!
I know, there's a lot of ifs when you analyze it. But so far, so good. Even if the forum closed tomorrow, we make and keep backups, so all of our writings would still be somewhere (although as you said, if no one could access them, that wouldn't mean a lot).
Look at Google Groups and you'll find Usenet posts from the early 80s... and Google isn't going away any time soon.
