In a teardown done with production hardware, research firm iSuppli now says a base iPhone 3G costs just $174.33 in pure manufacturing costs, or less than what it took to build the less capable original.

well everything's becoming every time more capable and cheaper at the same time, for example not that much time ago a motorola startac (one of those without LCD, but orange digits and green icons that could light up a whole room in the dark ) costed quite a lot, but now here you can find mobiles with photo cameras and all that stuff for us$ 15
