Anyway, I opened the thing up and remembered I had to deal with this...
Fuck it. I'm getting in touch with a few scrap houses to see how much they'll give me for this junk. If it's half of what I paid, I'd consider myself as breaking even. After all, I recently got my hands on a 64-bit multicore laptop for the modest sum of $0.00, a perk of working my current job. No point in trying to make this thing work instead of just enjoying the newer one.

We could give it to the aliens. Maybe they'll learn some new tech...
Seriously now... i'm actually glad you have a new one, you deserve it. I'm always upset when having very old laptops/pc's that work but cannot be sold, traded, gift wrapped, etc. By definition, if it works it can't be junk. However, they are worth a lot to collectors, should you be able to find one.
Used to make old pc a server to manage connected devices on the network Im not sure if that old laptop can run 24/7 but if it does then this would be a perfect usage of it
PS: my new laptop is and isn't 64-bit capable. More on that later, on a new thread (first I will watch Breaking Bad).

It can always open for seed and leech
In the end, I never bothered to reassemble it. Donated it to my school yesterday night (well, it's currently on a temporary storehouse until the school opens) along a ton of other malfunctioning/useless gadgets I had. Surely Electronics students will be able to take their working parts and do something with them?
I did keep the super-duper Compaq briefcase it came on, though
