Two weeks ago marked a tragic day in the BitTorrent world - in a highly unexpected move, the Malaysian government ordered the shutdown of a number of sites hosted in Malaysian datacenters. Amongst the affected sites was the popular Mac-centered tracker, BrokenStones. As BrokenStones' server was quarantined, they had to regrettably announce their permanent closure.
Fortunately, as we have seen (and demonstrated) in the past, destroying a site is futile if the community and its ideals are allowed to remain. Although rebuilding a lost torrent site takes a monumental effort, the dedicated communities surrounding them are invariably capable and motivated enough to do so. For the past two weeks, a team of individuals has been working away at a replacement site, basing it off our currently unreleased Gazelle codebase.
After many sleepless nights and caffeine-filled days, the replacement site has been completed. It's been granted the name of Vortex Network, and is currently invitation only (power users can seek invites in the invite forum).
After having worked very closely with the new staff during the course of the entire process, we can say with full confidence that, with a little time and effort, they are fully capable of functioning as a more than fitting replacement for BrokenStones.
To all the displaced BrokenStones users - invites are available in many power user forums including our own, and on irc.vortexnetwork.org #vortexnetwork. We hope you have found your new home. To the Vortex team - we wish you the best of luck, and will continue to lend you our support whenever it is required.
