In comparison to what? What other player(s) have you tried that didn't play as smooth as this?
I'm using MPC-HC Lite (which is fork of the original MPC-HC but without any decoders). I manually install all of my decoders. Using DXVA on all HD videos.

in thunder, lightning, and loud trumpet’s sound,
ordain them laws".

Oh, oh. Better use LINUX.
Anyone using Splash? I have installed it to check it out after a problem with MPC making it use 100% CPU if you play a movie for long enough, even if paused.
There aren't many options to tinker with, but it seems decent enough.

MPC-HC is using hardware acceleration?I have installed it to check it out after a problem with MPC making it use 100% CPU if you play a movie for long enough, even if paused.
If so, try using it with proper decoders.
I am experiencing something similar and mine is always using DXVA.
I'm using CoreAVC for H.264 video and ffdshow-tryouts for everything else. ffdshow subtitle filter also added. I will try to tinker with the settings to disable acceleration.
