    Chromium and Google Chrome Relationship?

    What is the relantionship beetween chronium and google? Google chrome is based on chromium, I know that.

    I installed chromium and I get links leading to google chrome. Talking about start-up page, web store and some other hints leading straight to google.
    Wasn't chromium open-source? It shouldn't have anything to do with google.

    Because Chromium is the open source project that results in releases of Google Chrome, the history of the two is intertwined. Chromium is a project, making all releases developmental, with Chrome being the official release.

    When I heard Google was making their own browser, I wondered what would happen to their financement of well, the competition. Looks like it's still going, although there might be something more subtle at work:
