Alright, the aftermath of this.

1. I've decided against playing ADOM in my laptop, despite the amazing characters that get created when I roll for testing. It's like the RNG is spitting on me

2. today I'm making the backup before nuking all the netbook's partitions, repart'ing and reinstalling. Acronis gave an ETA of 23 hours. Ghost refused to boot. Partition Saving didn't see my external drive. I took a moment to reflect on how I'm doomed, then decided to run mini Windows XP, and create a 1:1 image of the data partition via WinHex. It's being done as we speak and the ETA is ~90 minutes.

The mandatory progs.dat file (a list of all installed programs I plan to keep) was assembled yesterday, and all settings where backed up. I've watched some movies to cut the backup's size down (although it doesn't matter now). I've decided to use a Windows 7 Lite by ivankehayov that can be found on Demonoid.

I almost forgot to get back here. The image was done and later that day I used Super Fdisk (I think) to repart the disk, and mini XP to re-extract the contents back. I ended up nuking my movie and game collection after an RD command was executed on the wrong place, oh well. I stayed up until 4am reconfiguring and installing all my programs. Yesterday I finished the project with a Windows Update marathon and now the system is fully operative.



Programs and my network connection seem to be a bit faster than before, but that could be a placebo. The philosophical peace of mind after getting rid of an old and burdened install to run a new one is however nice and a guaranteed benefit.

Now I have to work on my desktop. That will be way easier since I don't have to backup or partitionate anything, just the usual procedure of taking notes, renaming Windows core folders just in case and installing. The procedure will be somewhat accelerated by having cached the installers for my netbook's programs.

When I installed 7 on April of last year, it turned what was usually my D: partition into C:, and I had to make the former C: Z: instead. I'll see if I can work on that... C should be C and D should be D as it had been for 7 years before that.
