    This topic maybe leads to a flame war... due to different views/experiance.

    1. Did you mean "software" for the desktop (pc/computer) or on a server?


    My suggestion for server 'programs' is PHP (combined with a very little SQL).

    For desktop applications you might try to learn:
    C/C++, Java, Delphi
    Keep in mind that C/C++ or Java are not so easy to begin with...

    Don't (seriously) don't learn:
    Visual Basic (or any other type of Basic).
    I have painfull memories on VB...

    i don't know why people dislike VB so much yeah well, there are some people that think the are now "uberl337" programmers because the know how to VB, but that's a minority...

    it is very useful when you're just learning programming and you can do a lot of stuff if you're advanced too

    I totally agree.
    Maybe it was the way we had to learn it... With Microsoft VBA-Editor messing around with pesky Makros.
    That was totally no fun.
