In 1989, six year old Martin Bristoll was kidnapped from his backyard swing in Minersville Pennsylvania. Graham Sutter, a psychotic recluse, kept Martin imprisoned on his derelict pig farm, forcing him to witness and participate in unspeakable horrors. Chosen at random, his victim’s screams were drowned out by the rural countryside. For five years, Martin’s whereabouts have remained a mystery, until 17 year old Allison Miller (Alexandra Daddario) comes to live with her Uncle, Jonathan (Michael Biehn). While exploring her new surroundings, Allison discovers things aren't quite right at the farmhouse down the road. Her curiosity disturbs a hornet's nest of evil and despair that once torn open, can never be closed.

and yet he is allowed to stand in front of an opened window for every passenger to see, in a house that is supposed to be closed & unused, not to mention the original kidnapping shown to be done in a casual way, as if its a 'walk in the park' kind of thing

forcing him to witness and participate in unspeakable horrors.
not much of a horror if the kid is still sane

Chosen at random, his victim’s screams were drowned out by the rural countryside.
hardly, its more logical they would have been drowned out by the basement walls, with no light visible (or sound audible) to the outside as someone would notice that during nighttime

While exploring her new surroundings, Allison discovers things aren't quite right at the farmhouse down the road.
the psychotic killer is smart enough to pick his victims from far away yet now he chooses the next-door neighbor? or is he too psychotic to know who's living around his place

notice also the letter V being intentionally highlighted in the movie title, more on the V symbolism:

other than that, it could turn out to be a decent horror after all...
