Problem with the internet

So guys, I have this really annoying problem: When I start do donwload something my speed beginns to jump up and down without hitting the max (no matter how many seeders are there). I did 1000 speedtests and when I'm not downloading it's fine. I did the test to see if the ISP is shaping my connection and that was negative. I have a LAN connection trough a router who is connected with a modem and heres the interesting part: I have internet only when I'm connected to the router. If I try to connect the PC directly to the modem the "LINK" light goes off and I don't get connection. I hope somebody could help me.

that could mean your isp might have a high rate of data corruption (many hashfails), or light torrent traffic shaping, or your torrent client settings are not optimal (fi. upload speed not limited, inadequate number of connections), could be bad peering or too many slow seeders hogging the connections (like on public trackers) - whatever it is, from your description, it seems to be torrent related

maybe the modem is set in bridge mode without user authentification, which is then done on the router, so if you connect the pc directly to the modem it cannot establish the connection (not allowed/no auth), this might be solved by creating a new network connection on the pc that would then handle the authentification procedure in order to connect to the internet

you might wanna log onto the modem and go through its settings to find out if this is the case - for detailed how-to description refer to online tutorials

As I said, I tested if my ISP shapes my traffic here: Glasnost: Test if your ISP is shaping your traffic. I'm downloading only on private trackers. I've tried multiple torrents form multiple trackers - always the same result. I tried to use another PC instead of mine, same thing.

I used to get internet directly form my modem and it was no problem back then...

• did you try a different one just for testing?
• what software do you run? tried different apps?

it dösn't work like that. you gotta give more detail on your own
the points i mentioned were just examples to show the way ...

anyway, xp and win7 don't count as different os and it would be nice to know the ut version and which other apps you've tried.
also your ut settings, which trackers ... and so on ...

oh and did you turn off any sort of anti-whatever apps, firewall etc.?

Ure right. I'm running userenity 2.2 23071 (NoUpload mode). Tried also the latest bitcomet (don't know which version).Here are my settings:




And the problem is constant - on every tracker, on every torrent. I think I have this problem since I tried to download something form SCC. On SCC I had this strange thing: I couldn't download a thing and my whole internet connection was blocked. I think I wrote about that somewhere.

All caching settings turned off? Your HDD must be choking on its own vomit.

Also, there's no use in limiting your upload speed to 1kB/s if you're using no uploading. It may actually decrease speeds.

seems you just used the default ones, look for the optimal utorrent settings here:

in addition to Instab's & anon's recommendations you might want to turn off 'randomize port' (fig.3) as the router might have trouble with forwarding the correct port for utorrent (result: lower speeds)

So we talked in the shoutbox and seems that the problem was in the cash. I ticked the first 2 and then the cache when the disk reads and it seems for now that the problem is solved. I'll keep monitoring my speed in the next few days,though. 10x guys
