Thread: Local Entertainment?

    Local Entertainment?

Just have an idea of exchanging local entertainment products i.e., music and movies.

For music, it's better to be on youtube and for movies, it must have an English translation, otherwise it's useless.

Also it will be more useful if you guys post both old&new music to show us the history and development of art in your country and movies should address Contemporary/Controversial Issues.

I'll post some later, looking forward to see yours.

Two awesome productions from my country:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nine_Queens_(film)
Los simuladores - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The former can be found on KG and there are plenty of one-click hoster links if you search Google. Unfortunately, there are no English dubs or subtitles that I know of for the latter, which is a real shame, because it was a fantastic series.

Nine Queens is a nice movie indeed, Los Simuladores I personally never liked.

    I suggest this movies:
    On Probation (2005) - IMDb
The Secret in Their Eyes (2009) - IMDb
Waiting for the Hearse (1985) - IMDb
    La nona (1979) - IMDb
Any of Pino Solanas' modern documentaries (90's to date). They narrate how this country was dismantled by the USA. I hope he wins next years' Presidential election.

    Music:
Astor Piazzolla: "Modern" Tango / Classical http://www.discogs.com/artist/Astor+Piazzolla
    Manuel Sahagun: House http://www.discogs.com/artist/Manuel+Sahagun
    Roberto Goyeneche: THE Tango singer
If you don't speak Spanish don't waste your time with Tango, I am serious.

This I do not like but I know they are good in their genre:
Gustavo Cerati / Soda Stereo: pop / rock / experimental
    Pappo / V8: hard rock
    Rata Blanca: Power Metal
    Almafuerte: Metal...I guess
Versuit Vergarabat: If someone can fit their music in some style please let me know . They have some very touching lyrics.

    TV Shows:
Cha Cha Cha: a 90's comedy show, sort of a monty python-kids in the hall blend. Most jokes have references to local political issues.
Okupas: Tells the story of a regular guy who loses everything and ends up homeless
Peter Capusotto y sus videos: Comedy and cult rock videos in the weirdest, most bizarre way.
Policías en acción: Local "COPS". Would you like to see what lies beyond the ever touristic places in the country?
Lo que el tiempo nos dejo: Argentien historical events reenacted the way they actually happened, not like in the school books.

I also recommend a comic group called "Les Luthiers" but they pretty much base the show's comedy on the language...so the translation will kill it all.
In fact, any translation will kill any Argentine production, we have a very particular accent and our lexicon is quite different from regular spanish (or any other latin american spanish speaking country) .
I really like your idea Extraterrestrial, but most local productions can't be fully appreciated by every other inhabitant in the world. Keep in mind that each country(and parts of) not only have their own accent, lexicon, expressions, rimes, etc; but you also have to remember that english is a pretty simple language compared to most other languages.
I can't assure that any of my suggestions are available in english dub or subs.

And guess what, i have a (must see) Egyptian film based on this novel and i consider it one of the best Arabic movies.

Luckily enough, i found an English translation to the film.
