trying to wrap my head around all this cheating stuff

first of all thanks for this great site and all the info. I've read a few of the tutorials and the do's and dont's and i think I understand most of it. I'm using ratiomaster 1.9.0 and have downgraded my utorrent to match a 1.8.5 which is one of the clients in the list (using memory reader). I've gone to great lengths to make sure that my speeds are realistic, ie. match what my isp is capable of but what I want to know is what if any harm can come of leaving a torrent on indefinitely. Obviously I have set the option in my client to stop seeding if less than 4 leechers are present (my own personal security measure) and I periodically check to make sure that there are leechers available and to do it on free leech or well or on torrents with a fair amount of leechers. So yeah, couldn't i just leave ratiomaster on ? Thanks for any feedback

Generally it's not a good idea to leave the RM running on the same thing forever. Don't overrely on the "stop if there are less than X leechers" option (it's far from accurate) and don't overfake on the same torrent.

By the way, why naming this thread "trying to wrap my head around all this cheating stuff" when you say you understood most of it?

wow thanks for the quick reply! Is it a matter of them being able to detect that I'm cheating or something else. Cause to me it looks very realistic. It takes a while to upload x amount of GB and like I said I make sure that my speeds cannot exceed what is possible from my isp. Thanks again!

edit: yeah I guess I do understand most of it. But the stuff I don't understand is maybe over my head. such as the methods used to detect etc. etc.

I said you shouldn't overfake. If you're using your real upload speed (and I assume it's slow), it's OK to leave the torrent running for extended periods of time. That's the slow and steady method

thanks very much anon. Yeah my upload speed is around 100KB/s so I set it to 95-125 which is about 1MB/s. I don't plan on letting my ratio get racked up on 1 torrent however. Was thinking of going 1:1 or a little over (again I try to stick to free leech) cheers!

    No, it's 1Mb/s.

    The rest sounds good.

Common mistake. However, nowadays, there are very slow and fast internet connections so it would be nice if units are used correctly.

Indeed, because 1Mb/s is just around a tenth of 1MB/s. ISPs use bits instead of bytes to advertise their products, since they achieve bigger, attracting numbers.

ISPs use Bytes instead of Bit In the advertising they show:

Your adsl reaches until 1 MB/s when your real upload is 1 Mb/s, lil difference

No, most use bits, as in "20 Mbps" for example, which is actually 2 megabytes per second.
