    how can one restore password (=data) from an empty HDD (=format) without using recovery tools? is roboform capable of doing this?

    Yes it will, mozbackup saves your current firefox profile, including passwords, cookies, history, cache, etc or whatever you want to keep, of course you have to save that data on other disk, then after formatting, installing your OS and firefox again, you can load mozbackup and restore your previously saved profile.
