CES shows us the Internet of the future

One of the more prominent trends at CES was Internet connected TV. The Boxee Box -- a device that connects to your television and lets you play videos and music from the Web took home the show's "Last Gadget Standing" award.

DivX is making a similar play to bring content from the Internet to television, but doing so without any additional hardware required.

Beleaguered Internet giant Yahoo is also betting big on this trend with a slightly different angle as it tries to reinvent itself. Through its Connected TV service, Yahoo is enabling users with Internet connected televisions to do things like access their playlists, communicate with friends on Facebook and Twitter, and get stock quotes from CNBC, using the familiar concept of widgets that's become so popular on the Web.

then i'll quote myself from the same thread

they forgot to mention the dumbing-down effect tv has, behavioral influence (stress/fear/anxiety/...) & manipulations on subconscious levels by the content creators (advertisements, select imagery & symbols, suggestive contents,...), mainstream controlled information flow and so on

just to be careful & aware of what's going on behind the scenes, so one can recognize (observe with educated eyes, so to speak) what the industry is daily feeding us with & that entertainment & media industry are not what they seem on the outside (at least concerning mainstream & big-budget stuff, ie. corporate supported stuff) or what they want us to believe they are

as strange as it may sound, i would even say that they aren't necessarily completely against filesharing of their products, sure it may bring less profits, but even the 'rebellious' p2p-ers are still their product/contents consumers via filesharing, so the industry still gets to send their message (thats embedded into movies/music/artwork/lyrics/symbols/...) to everyone that 'consumes' it, regardless of paying for it or not

as one alternative researcher likes to say: '...they are trying to tell you something'

in other words, if you know (are aware) of whats going on, you will less likely be affected by it, ie. you can avoid being a victim of their manipulations (as opposed to the unsuspecting viewer)
