Facts and Rumours regarding Google Chrome OS.

In terms of security, Google said it is "going back to the basics and completely redesigning the underlying security architecture of the OS so that users don't have to deal with viruses, malware and security updates." With that in mind, the Chrome browsers sandbox browsing and process isolation will likely be key to the Chrome OS's security infrastructure.

Google hasn't said an awful lot about Chrome OS, but many commentators have weighed in with their feelings on the subject. There's a lot of scepticism around at the moment precisely because Google hasn't said an awful lot about its plans - the timing of the announcement was strange to say the least.

    What say?

    Regards,
    Kelly

Heh, yes, I did read about Chrome OS saying "bye bye to viruses and malware". Its Linux base speaks well of it, but that will only work... for a small while. As the article says, it's impossible to create a system that's 100% invulnerable to malware.

I have also heard its system requirements will be mid-low compared to the amount of resources OSes such as Vista and Win7 need to work properly, or at all. But I don't carry on well with the idea of running everything in, or from, the Cloud. Compression or anything, fast bandwidth users will always have an edge. And what about those that don't have an Internet connection at all? (Yes, such people exist!)

And well, it's Google. You know what happened with their browser; a part of me thinks we'll hear about Iron OS soon. Or maybe not, given the amount of time it'd take to look for things such as tracking ID on a whole operating system's source code.

Google Chrome, imo deserves a thmbsup for its resource utillization (assuming they implement
what they have stated) . Everyone cannot have a core i7, or a similar power hungry rig which will later be used to deliver Power hungry OSes such as Vista. I like the idea of Google releasing this OS which is mainly targeted towards the mainstream PC market, hence availing it to a diversified PC users.

On a second thought, when it comes to Privacy & Security this really bothers me.As its been stated that Chrome OS could be deployed in a Cloud atmosphere.

Hence, in my view Google needs to strike a perfect balance between these two & other issues as well.As it's always been that Google is said to deliver quality products , lets hope this one lives upto the expectations as well

Google Chrome is becoming more popular every day despite it's privacy invading features.
It seems all are eager to know more about this OS.
And what about those that don't have an Internet connection at all? (Yes, such people exist!)
    Windows XP/7 rulez!
a part of me thinks we'll hear about Iron OS soon.
No chance. They barely update Iron every month. Why would they make a OS of their own?

    Someone has to do it

But yes, it's sad to see how little support SRWare receives.

    Check this out, everyone!

Are these the first images of Google Chrome OS?

Google wasn't especially generous with the specifics when it came to Chrome OS in their original announcement. In a nutshell, they called it "an open source, lightweight operating system that will initially be targeted at netbooks."

Looking for something a bit more tangible? We just might have it for you.

An anonymous tipster sent the following images to us this morning, claiming they are actual images of Chrome OS. We can't say much for certain at this point, so pass judgment yourselves in the comments.

    Some news:
First stages of Chrome OS integration appear in Google Chrome

It's not much, but evidence of Google's enigmatic Chrome OS has appeared in the source for Chromium's (the open source project behind Google Chrome) nightly builds.

Common sense dictates that Google's browser would be tightly integrated into the new operating system, but now we have some actual code which provides confirmation. As you can see in the screenshot, the Chromium switches file now contains a reference to Chrome OS's login manager. The single-sign-on cookie provides simplified access to the various Google services like GMail, Calendar, Reader, and Docs.

I feel not only Google Browser's but everything will be googlified. Google has conquered almost all mainstream apps, thus quite naturally Google Chrome OS will be a collection of all these application bundled into single OS.

I only wish Chrome could play games as good or even better than Windows

    Read the posts above yours?

kelly, I think you're right with that - Google does seem to "eat" everything at times. I mean, they're the search engine, GMail, GTalk, YouTube, Google Earth, the Chrome browser, etc., and now a whole operating system? What's next, Google P2P? ;/
