Pirate Party Enters the German Parliament

Just two weeks after the Swedish Pirate Party won a seat in the European Parliament, the German PiratenPartei has gained a seat in the German government. Jörg Tauss has left the Social Democrats Party (SPD) and has joined the Pirate Party.

Seems that someone saw through this whole censorship thing Blocking CP is OK IMO, but for some reason I think they will later indeed "cover other areas" - and you saw what happened with Australia's blocklist.

Wow I am really surprised. Maybe this could change some situations here, so somebody can look forward to it.

The system they will be using is really poor and will not stop anyone but grannies from entering blocked sites...

They should inform the providers of the sites instead to take them down, which is a much better method, instead of just blocking user access with DNS.

Looking forward to get some good input from Jörg Tauss!
Maybe some members of the parties in austria also want to leave and enter pirate party

They're just using DNS poisoning or similar? Then technically sites aren't blocked at all.

The providers DNS servers will redirect you to a "blocked site" page...

You can just use a custom dns and thats all - or enter the ip address manually;=)

It shows how dumb polititians are, they only care about media savvy.

you know, maybe they aren't dumb at all, such moves toward censorship on the (and of the) internet can be deliberate to ultimately eliminate unwanted propaganda/opinion/news/... that aren't in sync with global media & government controlled media - in effect you could loose a way to hear alternative opinions - this internet control/censorship plan may be their final goal, and events that are currently emerging just a prequel to it

Yes, but they're not going to achieve it by just blocking certain hosts on ISP's default DNS servers, right?

Now, if you mean starting with this and then going up... I don't see why not, unfortunately.

Yes they only block via DNS servers - so that the "user" will load the stopp-page.
The logging was removed two days before it became law.
But any user of alternative DNS servers is hidden in front of this law.

And the real problem is: Deleting (for example via mail to hoster) is not needet - so this sites are still existing and were keept hidden (better as it was before)

The first politicians have allready said so:
For instance one want to block "killer games" an other manuals for bomb building.
The content mafia has shown their desire too. (and wants P2P sites blocked)
This will be a bottomless pit.

    @topic:
It's very good to have one of them in parliament so the majority of our administration loses one seat. But one pirate is not enough - they should get more than 5% of our votes so that they build a fraction in our bundestag.

    best regards

I think piratebay should turn into a private Tracker, and i am sure that they can beat every private tracker or they should tell the court that they have closed the tracker and then they may open a new tracker with a different name.

I don't think that would be a good idea. Even if this often means MediaDefender, the MPAA, etc., can put up fake torrents and such, one of the reasons TPB is so famous is because it's open to everyone.
