Major Scene MP3 Pre-Release Group Busted By Police

A major online warez release group has been severely disrupted after a police and music industry investigation. A contender for the most prolific in its field, the group has suffered arrests, with the latest coming yesterday after police and the BPI conducted an early morning raid.

For anyone wondering, the group in question is DV8. TF never mentioned it though, for whatever reasons, and in fact this news was leaked yesterday to ScC's Scene News thread. Their leader has been busted; for anyone who doesn't know who DV8 are, they are a Scene group specialising in pretty much all types of music.

groups at the top of the so-called ‘piracy pyramid’ receive relatively little attention.
not true, they have constant attention, but their security methods are much better than those of the p2p world, also they operate as single cells with small virtual groups gatherings so infiltration is much harder (think about how many trackers you have access to) - apart from mistakes and potentially dangerous connections to media hard copy's the only suspicious indicator of their activity is a rather large bandwidth consumption over FTPs - i remember an article when some hungarian top site was raided - their national bandwidth usage sunk for some 20%! after the server shutdowns

nowadays the number of personal releases and p2p groups like axxo has increased and this provides another obstacle for the anti-p2p's

Their latest release was ... - time will tell if it will be the last.
well, since this major group (only 10 members, probably not knowing each other other than by their nicks) has been compromised the expected outcome is for other free members to lay low for a while and then continue under the same name or form a new group and then it all goes back to their usual activities

and by the way all that scene talk about how p2p makes them insecure is just nonsense - p2p spread over general population does increase anti-p2p measures but provides significantly better protection through hiding in a larger group - the biggest insecurity is top-site or near top-site segment where all kinds of 'users' appear, often with hardware candies which are hard to resist
