    unless you're really paranoid.
Ahem... It was only a theoretical question, of course

And as Andy Groove said: "only paranoids survive"....

(But one of my friends recently argued that the true meaning was slightly different: "paronoids only survive"...)

That MAC spoofing thing didn't work for me, may be it changes, but my IP is till the same and afaik I don't have static IP (95% sure). I have a modem which is conn to a router and the PC is conn to the router, tried to change the IP form the router, too, nothing happened...Ideas?

    Try the following procedure:
    • enable MAC cloning in your router
    • disable your connection via "Network Connections"
    • change your network card's MAC
    • power cycle your modem and router
    • enable your connection

Is he looking to alter his IP or spoof his MAC....2 different things??

His external IP remains the same. Because from what I understand (correct me if I"m wrong) but MAC addressing is from Layer 2 of this thing called an OSI model ( Open Systems Interconnection model) . ---This is basically dividing communication's systmes into different layers.

So in that particular case your IP provider can use a MAC address to push a IP address to you (being Layer 3) as the IP provider's DHCP servers works with known MAC addresses.

So if he's looking to genuinely alter his IP, there is an excellent script here that was made by one of our members and it works superbly if followed-to-the-letter:

thanks go out to 'toxinnz" for this script.

But if he's looking to spoof his MAC adress, then it's either this tutorial or one of the MAC address spoofing softwares that I mention in the first post of my tutorial.

this dös only work if the connection is made by the os and only works for windows. so if you got a router and/or not windows don't bother.

everyone else should definitely have a look

    ---------- Post added at 07:03 ---------- Previous post was at 06:57 ----------

for the record: this dös change the ip, not the mac address.

toxinnz's script won't work if your ISP caches MAC addresses, either.

ok I did it but will that ever help if I get banned from a tracker?

I mean besides the IRC, what if I get banned from a tracker due to cheating, could I go back and re-register after that?

I have a static IP so it's not a matter of just restarting the modem

Your ISP isn't recognizing the new MAC. Did you try power cycling your modem/router?

I never saw anything like that...

Try rebooting your PC or turning it off for a while and then on, I'd say...
