Doesn't matter. Just open up MAC.list (or whatever you name it) and just choose one. There are a ton to choose from.

Sorry man, I don't want to sound like a jerk, but that's like making a shell script to write down numbers from 1-100 into text file then opening it to choose a number from 1-100.

Finally i know the reason why i'm not able to get into TL's IRC

But after reading your "DISCLAIMER" I think i will first try it out on ubuntu or something

Btw if i spoof my MAC address in ubuntu will the changes affect windows also? Or will windows still have the old MAC address?

Don't worry, chances your computer will explode when changing the MAC are minimal.

Spoofing the MAC address via software methods like the one in this tutorial will only affect the OS you've done it on.

Apparantly, methods do exist to spoof one's MAC Address in Unix/ Linux systems.
Here's the temp method that works on ubuntu

    ifconfig eth0 down
    ifconfig eth0 hw ether 01:02:03:04:05:06
    ifconfig eth0 up

source:Change MAC address in Ubuntu temporarily

the 'hw' option of 'ifconfig' should be available on almost any more or less current linux

It's better not to change your MAC to such a completely different one, your ISP may not recognize it afterwards (happened to me). Usually just editing the last byte should be enough.

Hello, I am a newcomer for this good and informative forum. It's very nice that I found it - really!

To the point: why to spoof mac address. I have understood they aren't routed to web - correct?

To change your IP, a vital measure when you're reregistering at a tracker or want to keep multiple accounts.

If I am using a vpn connection, my ip is changed and they can't get the mac address; the guys who are running the tracker, I mean.

Same thing happens to (mac) if you use a router without a vpn, right?

You should know we aren't 100% sure of whether they can get your MAC. They probably can't.

But in the router case, they'd get the router's address, yes.

And if I use a router and a VPN, my VPN provider will always see my router's mac address, right ?

In this kind of configuration, have I some advantage to use mac spoofing tools ?

As far as I know, yes.

Well, not letting the provider know your real MAC, maybe? But that's cosmetic at most, unless you're really paranoid.
