LAS VEGAS – Ricardo Torres would have been well within his rights to say no to a rematch with Kendall Holt. There were bigger paydays and more prominent opponents available in the super lightweight division.

Things got a bit out of hand in the first bout between the two at the Jumbo Saloon Country Club in Barranquilla, Colombia, but nothing that happened materially affected the outcome of the bout.

Holt’s side threatened lawsuits after losing the WBO junior welterweight title bout to Torres via an 11th-round technical knockout. They demanded rematches and mounted a public relations campaign to prove that Holt somehow was cheated out of the title.

The WBO rejected Holt’s appeal, but the Holt camp pressed on. And while Top Rank’s Bob Arum, who promotes Torres, was prepared to dig his heels in, Torres shrugged his shoulders.
