    Extrem komprimierte .rar Datei

well, what supermarrioh said. the compressed file was most likely GBs of 00 00 00 00... which rar can compress like "this is just 7gb of NULs", that explains the super-packing

and yes, KGB is known for extremely high compression rates (you can compress office 2007 in 2mb and gta: san andreas in 64kB for example ), but also for demanding all your cpu, memory and lifetime to unpack an archive

I don't know this software, but doesn't it have multicore support?

For an archivieng software it is not all-too good not to have multicore support.

But if it has multicore support one day I think it wouldn't take a very long time on a quad system to compress some files, so we just have to wait for a version with multicore support.

you can find its homepage here to know more about it

anyway last update was on october 7 2007, so we're unlikely to see an official version with multi-proc support...

    yet the program is open-source...

    Ok, I see.

Too bad the thing with the updates.
But cause the software is open source maybe some other coders are continuing the work and release an update.

    Look at this thread.
It's a newer one and the admin is talking about considering of making a multicore version.

    oops, hadn't seen that

anyway he's effectively taking his time to think about it... multi threading would be relatively secondary... this app is mostly noted for being able to compress full cds in a handful of megabytes and with the advent of every time faster processors there'll be a day when unpacking a dvd will take just some minutes of your time

but it'd be cool to have it!!
