I assumed this would be a bit more tied into the Manson murders, but maybe that's just a backdrop.

Either way, I'm super excited for this!

Tarantino is superb at getting the "atmosphere" right on his movies. Jackie Brown, Pulp Fiction and True Romance are prominent examples of this. The last one was only written and not directed by him, but you'll still see what I'm talking about if you watch it.

Anyway, I'm highly looking forward to this one too. First time I feel that way about a movie since the year started

Personally, I feel like the movies that Tarantino didn't direct, didn't have the atmosphere it should have. Even though True Romance was written by him, you couldn't really tell by the style of directing or the atmosphere. Still a great movie though! But that made me realize that a having great director is so important and that it's not just the script that's important.

tarantino started losing his touch somewhere around 2007 and hasn't recovered since - the trailer here isn't particularly reassuring

    Parable of the Two Birds

Two birds, beautiful of wings, close companions, cling to one common tree: of the two one eats the sweet fruit of that tree; the other eats not but watches his companion. The self is the bird that sits immersed on the common tree; but because he is not lord he is bewildered and has sorrow. But when he sees that other who is the Lord and the beloved, he knows that all is His greatness and his sorrow passes away from him...

regarding django, i wasn't entertained by the exaggeration and promotion of mainstream propaganda about slavery (which directly affects the lives of people, the resulting misplaced hatred towards each other) and fantasies of revenge, which is another hollywood darling - seems the problem is tarantino's move towards supporting mainstream politics in his later movies, as opposed to what he does best: entertaining depiction of filth
