    Katawa Shoujo

Katawa Shoujo is a bishoujo-style visual novel set in the fictional Yamaku High School for disabled children, located somewhere in modern Japan. Hisao Nakai, a normal boy living a normal life, has his life turned upside down when a congenital heart defect forces him to move to a new school after a long hospitalization. Despite his difficulties, Hisao is able to find friends--and perhaps love, if he plays his cards right. There are five main paths corresponding to the 5 main female characters, each path following the storyline pertaining to that character.

I found this game a couple of weeks ago and became absolutely hooked up by it. The writing is excellent, and the way it deals with disabilities is surprisingly sensitive and level-headed for a project spun off 4chan. I have already finished all routes, and am just a few scenes shy of reaching 100% completion. Lilly's good ending is exceptionally powerful - I stayed up until 6 AM to finish it because I just couldn't put my laptop down.

When a game has so many routes, endings and achievements, my usual reaction is to do a single playthrough, check if whatever I missed is on YouTube, and be done with the game either way. But somehow I was compelled to follow and get each and every one here. And there was a reward for doing it!
