Thread: Good email client for Windows?

    Good email client for Windows?

Hello. What would be a good mail client for windows, for use with Yahoo and Google mail that also supports multiple accounts?
I'm currently using Thunderbird but was looking in to using Outlook. To be honest I actually like Outlook I don't know how well it handles spam and malware. What do you think/recommend?

    Thank you

There is currently a project in development, Merani.
This project is a fork of Nylas-mail (which you should absolutly not download). Nylas-mail is not under active development anymore and has a lot of bug.

This new project look awesome ! Most of the heavy and resource consuming part of the project have been replaced with C++ libraries (which means ultra fast and no more resource greedness). The GUI looks good, simple but with enought features. It will support variety of mail providers (GMail, Fastmail, Yahoo, iCloud, AOP, and other IMAP/SMTP). And most of all it will be extensible with a plugin system, and since it's open source there should be a plenty of plugin soon after it has been released. One more thing, it will be available on all platform (windows, linux and mac).

You can check the roadmap here.

I personnaly can't wait to install this app.

This is my signature. There are many others like it, but this one is mine.

Sylpheed and Thunderbird look good, but excepting one-off occasions I haven't used an e-mail client since 2006 and Outlook Express, so I wouldn't know.

the main problem with those local clients is that you can't search for mails on the server.
this means that unless you sync your whole email history, you won't be able to find a mail that has a date beyond what you set to sync to your pc.
i.e. you set to sync the last 30 days, so that mail from 31 days ago will not come up on search.

if that does not bother you, then give outlook a try. I like it a lot and also use its calendar feature to organize my schedule.

rarely happens, when I'm without internet it's probably because I don't to (vacation or whatever, but that's another discussion).
if you have no need for online search abilities, then try outlook.

I have more than 5 gmail accounts and I searched for a desktop email client that will allow me to have multiple gmail accounts and preserve the online search ability without syncing the whole history to my PC, that's why I wrote that.

I went with outlook for now because I really need its calendar and task management.
However, I'm dealing with a problem on all mail clients in which the lastest mail will open automatically on program start. Of course the first mail is always spam, so it opens all my spam mail. I have disabled downloading of external images and others from the program's settings but some of them also have attachments. I don't know how secure is Thunderbird or Outlook on these things.

    Enable offline mode before exiting?

    I aim to please

I guess creating a dummy folder at the top of the list could also work.

    Tried it, seems okay.

Don't forget to always read and send mail in plain text only.
