    ExtraTorrent Shuts Down For Good

Popular torrent site ExtraTorrent has permanently shut down. The abrupt decision was announced a few minutes ago in a brief message posted on the site's homepage. This means that after the demise of KickassTorrents and Torrentz.eu, the torrent community must say farewell to another major player.

In a surprise move, ExtraTorrent decided to shut down today, for good.

Users who access the site’s homepage are welcomed by a short but clear message, indicating that the popular torrent index will not return (the message appears intermittently).

    “ExtraTorrent has shut down permanently.”

“ExtraTorrent with all mirrors goes offline.. We permanently erase all data. Stay away from fake ExtraTorrent websites and clones. Thx to all ET supporters and torrent community. ET was a place to be….”

TorrentFreak reached out to ExtraTorrent operator SaM who confirmed that this is indeed the end of the road for the site.

“It’s time we say goodbye,” he said, without providing more details.

It was nice tracker. However, there are many alternatives though like TPB, ShAaNiG, RARBG, demonoid & 1337x. There are also some indexers which have the torrents/magnet-links but no description for the torrent like iDope, Torrent Downloads, LimeTorrents & zooqle.

Part of the risks, I'm afraid. But I'm pleased that this time, at least there is no mention of extradited staff and prison sentences. Hopefully there isn't trouble we aren't being told about, and the admins simply decided to "quit while they're ahead" in order to avoid legal issues down the road.

their users/owners/supporters did not work or fight hard enough towards getting that break (by convincing the public to make a joint effort in changing legislation regarding the issue of filesharing)

    Parable of the Two Birds

Two birds, beautiful of wings, close companions, cling to one common tree: of the two one eats the sweet fruit of that tree; the other eats not but watches his companion. The self is the bird that sits immersed on the common tree; but because he is not lord he is bewildered and has sorrow. But when he sees that other who is the Lord and the beloved, he knows that all is His greatness and his sorrow passes away from him...

Horrible way of thinking. The captain must always go down with his ship, not sunk it himself! If was ever in this stuff, I would stay in until the bitter end! It shows integrity and composure rathern than non-risk taking yellow-back cowards!

Yeah, we're all tough until faced with a prison sentence.

the ship is merely a materialistic item, it would be foolish to die because of it

the captain must do only that what he does, no more and no less

he cut a deal with host (paid them off to shut up and made them sign a contact) to not sntich on him
Sounds a bit far-fetched... but it doesn't matter, the site is gone either way.
