    Great post! Now do one on BIOS backdoor passwords

    A small addition: in Compaq machines old enough to be irrelevant today, F12 will let you access either the BIOS or the boot menu depending on the model.

    Now do one on BIOS backdoor passwords
    I already have it, and much more :) I will do it sometime this week.
    For those that are worndering why I wrote these in this weird layout is because that's how I write notes in my text files. 3 line space similar items, 4 lines space for different areas.

    Yes but these notes apply to all machines, not just current ones.

    Depends on the motherboard. Newer motherboards 2010-present have in the BIOS an option to update it using a .bin rom file copied to a USB stick or HDD.
    If you do not have that option in your BIOS, you will need to get a Windows 98SE startup disk and execute it from there.

    If your motherboard is from this decade, chances are the BIOS update can be flashed from Windows and without rebooting.
