    KAT Being Rebuilt

It seems the staff at KAT have assembled together a big chunk of the KAT community, and now are asking for donations to rebuild the tracker:

Interesting to so how this one goes

In case anyone finds this suspicious (which is fine; whenever a major player goes down, fake sites wishing to capitalize on its name always spring up), TorrentFreak says it's a genuine effort, and the people behind it have been confirmed to be staff on the original KAT.

Yes, I never thought I'll miss any tracker as much as KAT. It shows that we only really know the value of what we have once we lose it: like health, KAT, eyesight, a GF etc.

Collecting money for building a torrent site? What's wrong with these guys? I always hate the commercial aspect in projects like this. If you don't have the time, skills and money for servers, you shouldn't start such projects.

as usual, i have to intervene with these generalizations: even then we do not know the value of it, we merely want it back the way it was before (a selfish impulse) - both scenarios (having this thing and later on not having it) are valuable to teach one the way things are supposed to be (if one can accept this lesson as such, as opposed to some personal fantasy of how they ought to be), to teach about dependence (on these things and in general), that the most sacred things are to be cared about (the most), that it is actually better for us to lose it (after the fact), and many more things we're not aware of

spiritually speaking, that which can be lost (permanently), aka 'temporary or materialistic things', has no particularly significant value - 'things' of real value are eternal, they cannot be lost nor destroyed, they do not depend on any event within the materialistic world - also, since we cannot reach them easily (rare 'items'), in our worldview (rare=valuable) their value would be pretty much priceless (oh, wait... hehe)

why not? i'm sure sites like kickstarter collected money for much stranger projects, not to mention donations collected regularly for private/public/semi-public trackers

people with sufficient time, skills and money must be doing something else instead, since i don't see them starting such projects, so it seems this is as good as it gets (for now)

Because it's unprofessional and against the idea of piracy content. Remember OiNK's shutdown. Some weeks after that, there was a completely new tracker written without any donations (What.cd [Gazelle]). It is possible. So if you have to collect money before you start such a project, you're going the wrong way and not much more than a script kiddy.
If you have a huge site like KAT, you don't need donations. You have contracts with VPN providers, advertisers, etc. It's no problem to make more than $1000 per month. That's the reason why nobody should collect money for such a project. I hope this person gets busted and doesn't reach the goal.

    @Rebound:

it's unprofessional and against the idea of piracy content.
unprofessional would be to ask for startup donations without being able to deliver something of reasonable quality (within reasonable conditions)

the idea of 'piracy content' is having access to it or being able to share/distribute it, not necessarily for free or free of any cost

If you have to collect money before you start such a project, it's the wrong way and you're not much more than a scriptkiddy.
there are many technically competent people having financial problems for one reason or another

If you have a huge site like KAT, you don't need donations.
how can you be sure these people own KAT or have access to any collected money?

I hope this person get busted and don't reach the goal.
what you wish on others, you wish on yourself (action-reaction)
so it would be wise to wish them success, as this not only benefits you (the well-wisher) but also the receivers of the wishes (new KAT) and finally all the users (if those wishes turn out to be fruitful in the form of a competent KAT successor)

Then tell me slikrapid, how could everyone else realize their projects without donations? Funding them with donations like this should be the last way, not the first. The best ones were created without a single cent.

maybe they got access to undisclosed funds, maybe it was due to loads of well-wishes, who knows? they made it one way, others will make it in another way
do we need the best project? a solid one would be quite satisfactory

Looks like your with may be granted, as the crowdfunding campaign has been deleted.

Anyway, one thing I cannot wrap my mind around of... if they're citing lack of programmers as the biggest hurdle in getting KAT working again, what are they going to do if they get the $7000? Outsource the job to India?

KickassTorrents Brought Back to Life by Original Staffers (Updated)

Now, if Waffles could also return before Christmas, that would be great!
