The description seems to indicate both fans and newcomers can "get" this one, so I'd wager that won't be a problem.
I believe it won't be a problem, since this is a spin-off. And I also think that it's very probable that you know by now the existence of the Death Star which by the trailers I think it's gonna be shown.
If I were you, I'd watch the original trilogy first (if and when you intend to watch them someday), the newest trilogy is shit and so is EP VII (kinda).

"What's the point of being an outlaw when you got responsibilities?" "Darth Vader had responsibilities. He was responsible for the Death Star." "True that. Two of them bitches."

Thanks for the tip. Movie tickets were already reserved for this one when I wrote my previous post and this was a busy week, so I couldn't shuffle them around. But Star Wars is definitely among the (somewhat big) list of acclaimed movies I haven't yet watched but want to one day. Same with Lord of the Rings and Godfather.

Anyway, I did watch this one, of course, and here are my thoughts.

    Spoiler spoilerers:
It was good. Lots of action, drama, and some humor. When rebel reinforcements arrived during the assault on Scarif and the planet shield was destroyed by ramming ships against it, I wanted to hop from my seat and cheer

Too bad for the bittersweet ending: team Rogue One ultimately manages to steal and transmit the schematics, but all of them are wiped out by the time the transmission is complete, and many other rebels are also killed. This is probably a foregone conclusion for those who have already watched the trilogy, but I found it pretty sad.

And yes, the Death Star shows up and is fired twice, although not at full power.

An arrangement of the Imperial March is used during a certain scene in this movie. It's highly effective at setting the mood.

Finally watched it on Blu-Ray. I think I need to watch it again very soon, I don't have an opinion as of now. I did love Darth Vader last scene. That was some awesome shit!
