Relative torrent paths in utorrent resume.dat

I have two torrents that i'd like to be relative to utorrent.exe location.
I'd like the files within the torrent to be set to .\downloads\<file> but utorrent does not work that way.

    Things I tried:
    edited resume.dat, deleted .fileguard
edited each torrent and cleared the path element and replaced the target\ITEM 1\ to .\downloads\<file>

The problem is utorrent will overwrite the path element with the current location. So if i set it to .\downloads\<file>, utorrent will add another .\downloads\<file> so the final path element will have this: .\downloads\<file>.\downloads\<file> . And i do not understand why.

Of possible interest: µTorrent Portable | PortableApps.com - Portable software for USB, portable and cloud drives

Under "Support", they acknowledge uTorrent 3.3+ no longer supports relative paths, but perhaps the wrapper program they used for the portable edition can be made to work combined with other ideas.

In a worst-case scenario, a sure-fire solution can be scripted: scan resume.dat, search for paths and replace them with the current directory, delete .fileguard, delete resume.dat.old, run uTorrent.

    But I'm using uT 2.2.1, not 3.3.

Then check how their portable version handles it. Maybe the trailing dot, backslash or both are unnecessary.
