Computer reboots _while_ resuming from hibernation

Anyone ever had this problem? It's really pissing me off. It had already happened on this same laptop a few times before, but it stopped... until now. The RAM, hard disk and file system are all in good shape. The only things I did that may have triggered it are disabling and deleting Cryptographic Services (which I just undid) and enabling test mode, as Radmin needs it to run under 64-bit Windows 7.

The Event Viewer doesn't say anything. Searching the Internet doesn't give any clues. All results are about computers rebooting after resuming, and/or instead of shutting down after going into hibernation (the latter being a problem I had once in the past and fixed by myself trying a ton of stuff).

In the meantime, disabled autorebooting and enabled the crash dump to get some clues next time. And also wrote a program that takes a screenshot and writes all running processes and window titles to a text file, which I run prior to hibernating, because I get a bit depressed when I can't remember everything I had open.

The two main components of hibernation are RAM and HDD. So I would check the RAM with memtest, bootable iso on a stick and make some tests.
Then get HDTUne and check the HDD with an error scan.
If it is all OK, rule out very old programs, like anything not being updated in the last 5 years. Then rule out anything that uses large ammounts of memory.

Memory and disk are both okay unless they started failing very recently. They were checked the first time I had this problem.

Now that you mentioned old programs, I got rid of Enhancer, a Winamp plugin that's really good but has a nasty habit of injecting its DLL on new processes and hasn't been updated since 2001. Also, Opera was using nearly a gigabyte of memory because I have tons of tabs open. That was never a problem before, but I'll do a test run without restoring the entire browser session.

This calmed down after I made the above post, then happened again today And I'd just rebooted the computer yesterday, only keeping the most important programs open before hibernating. Still can't find a pattern for whatever the cause is.

To make it even worse, I lost my previous Opera session too. Managed to undelete it from the disk, the first few pages are corrupt but perhaps it can be rebuilt by hand.

Try to set your power plan to high performance and try it.
Have you made any customizations to the default power profiles?

I made some (mostly to never put the computer or disk to sleep), is there a specific one that could be relevant?

It's happening every day now

I tried toggling hibernation off and then on, but it didn't do anything. Of note, I keep the Intel Display Audio device disabled, and never installed the drivers for the accelerometer and virtual keyboard, because I don't use any of those things. Will try changing that when I get home in case it helps. Maybe another full disk and RAM test may be in order too, I'm running out of ideas here.

The main part need some tests is power supply but laptop don't contain it , did you try with power adapter direct / and again with battery ?

Did you checked / uncheck from bios wake up on lan option .

RAM was fine, but I'll test it again this Saturday. The AC adapter is the one I'd been using with my previous laptop without problems (voltage, amperage and DC jack are exact matches), and the problem happens when running on battery power too anyway.

How should I test video and the CPU, using a benchmark?

The BIOS has no upgrades and no Wake-on-LAN, but I have that disabled on Windows.

I use old way to test by replacing parts and install spare parts from other PC .

It's hard to do that on a netbook

Although I have access to others of the same model I could swap to if one of the components is faulty.

I have Windows Restore turned off since as far as I know it's just a registry backup + shadow copies of files on certain locations, and I already have ERUNT for the former. And since this was already happening a few months before I started this thread, I doubt restoring the registry would help at this point.

I did install the two missing drivers today, let's see if that helps. Won't be able to test the RAM this weekend, but I could leave it running between tomorrow night and Monday.

Hello anon, are you able to borrow some RAM from someone else and test with your laptop? If not, how many RAM modules are installed? If more than one try taking out half of them and test, then test again with the other half and so on.

I have access to tons of free hardware (laptop RAM included) thanks to my current job, something I'm thankful for every day.

This model only has a single RAM slot... and opening the thing up to reach it is a nightmare, but I'll do it if memtest86+ says memory is faulty.

Did a full memtest yesterday night, everything came out okay. Turned the computer on today, this happened again.

I think I'm going to swap it for another of the same model, just in case I got a defective one. Or maybe just return to my older one, it was working just fine after all
