I must admit, I usually don't like japanese live action movies, based on anime, but this one really looks damn sick!

the plot above sounds silly (reminds of 'the one' theme)
the acting is amateurish (2nd rate asian actors?)
the effects seem to be good but not much is shown (hinting at being overrated)

the giants? dummies sleep-walking and destroying the cities, controlled by the evil red spirit, devouring humans?

lets see... a growing evil (red spirit) representing ignorance (dummies/sleep-walking), amassing followers (devouring/giants), destroying order or civilization (cities), is faced by our hero (the awakened one = having a special gift)

anyways, whoever will watch this movie can check up on these assumptions/analogies and how much they fit the actual plot

Anyone watching this movie will have watched the series and won't be bothered by those thoughts at all, imho.

As smart as you are silkrapid I have to agree with sazzy on this one plot is not that at all and to tell the truth I am excited about this one it's the adaptation of japanese manga Shingeki no Kyoujin and any one who read it knows it's good but yeah the element of hero being the one is there, but every story needs a lead character.

perhaps your opinion on this is correct regarding the majority of viewers in terms of conscious perception, however in terms of the subconscious, no viewer is impervious to thoughts arriving due to their archetypal similarity to the viewed material, these events are beyond any viewer control

Agreed to an extent as pattern recognition does tend to cluster similar archetypes and tend to predict and connect as you said subconsciously which they may/may not have conscious awareness/control of but there are inherent differences in people's general archetypes owing to differences in perspective, environment and even at a biological level.

archetype=prototype, everyone is subconsciously familiar with it, it speaks of the nature of reality, same to all
the difference is a result of interaction between the archetype & the individual (who is in a state of partial awareness), the mind looking for comparisons between those archetypes and the viewed material in order to make sense of it on several levels
the outcome is individually different, not the archetype itself

in other words, the viewers will all think about it, but their conclusions or awareness thereof may differ
