Thread: Random useful applications

  1. #16
Your eyes will be thankful. I can't imagine anymore sitting in front of screen at evenings/nights without this neat app taking care of color temperature. Also cool thing it doesn't interfere with any games/movies.
My screen just turned yellow. Is this normal? My cursor is white though.

Yes, its normal. You will get used to it, and not notice 'yellowness' (its too harsh to call it like that anyway) after few minutes. If you think the old unmodified brightness was better try closing program after just 30 min of running it to see direct-instant effect of how bright and annoying your old screen was.

Also, there is science behind it. When you turn off your screen and go to bed you will have easier time falling asleep if you were looking at 'Flux-ed' screen then regular one. Something about brain day/night reception chemistry, I can't remember details, but should be easy searchable.

About cursor: not sure. I'm using linux and my cursor is always black so I'm can't provide useful info for that. In theory everything should be changed, cursor included, but bugs / limitations are always possible.

Flux is awesome. Your eyes and sleep cycle will thank you for using it, and after a while, you won't even remember how your non-yellow screen looked like (I've set mine to 2300k).

The little program cleans your windows OS of temporary files. This is the gets 99.99% of all your temporary files in all known temporary locations and is by far the safest and lightest application of this sort.
    I recommend it.

In Windows, flux cannot change the mouse color because it is rendered by hardware, flux can't access it because it is operating on a software level.

This is where your mouse cursor is being drawn in hardware by the video card. If you are using Windows, turning on mouse trails is the suggested solution - probably because this means the cursor is now being drawn in software instead.

I am back with the best program for RSI disorders.
This app autoclicks every second and pauses when mouse is moving or location has not moved since previous click.
I have installed basically every application and found this to be the best.

    The best windows terminal manager.

The best windows multi-desktop but sadly abandoned. Make no mistake, nothing on the market works. This is great but old and buggy.

The best find utility on windows. Try it and you'll see.

For personal use, the best file folder comparison.

    Same as above but free.

This utility maps CTRL+C to itself and strips all formatting on the text you copied. Thus, when you do CTRL+V the text will be cleaned.

All credit goes to Lucius for finding this great piece of software. This is basically an automizer for everything, mouse, keyboard, startup whatever you can think of.
Mostly used in home theather PC's (xbmc).

Winmerge is kind of sucky compared to p4merge. That being said, beyond compare is probably one of the best for only 30 dollars. hella cheap

Good driver finder and installer. Supports command-line arguments and uses the updated drivers made by Sam of SamDrivers (which were created from the original DriverPacks).

Add startup program everywhere, like registry and startup folder.
